Gears 5 is heavily lancer based now…
I’m not enjoying Gears 5 at all. I stopped playing 2 days in.

They have even stated this very thing straight up. The new omen is for the new rifle meta.
Excellent post. This is what they want. I’ve been telling people that TC could tweak this or that but that the game will still be on the casual side regardless. It was designed that way.
Honestly, I believe every weapon has it’s place and depending on the situation depends on my tactic. With that said though the Lancer was always about support. When a team mate needs help you lancer them a bit or when someone needs help getting a weapon. Heck I have even used it to get someone to back off a bit if they’re rushing in and im not ready for cqc. I don’t mind the Lancer being a little better than it was, but its too powerful right now for sure.
Although, im still gonna keep playing it the way I have always played Gears. I would rather destroy my rank and KD than set back and Lancer camp.

All that said I feel as tho g5 is where that meta of rifle play is being enforced even harder but I couldnt agree more
This is evident from the Omen Change which isn’t close quarters friendly and also “rifle meta” and rifles getting a lot of attention plus the only real new guns are pretty much rifles and Gnasher went from 8 to 6 shots and don’t hit active and your reload gives you 3

Gears of War is not “Gnashers Online”. Since the original they have been trying to find a way to make gnashers feel powerful, but stop them from being the only weapon people use. I think theyve done it here. The gnasher is still powerful, but it’s a ■■■■■■■ shotgun and if you just run right into an enemy like an idiot, you’re going to get wrecked. Which is how it should be. It was always a terrible idea to have the gnasher so OP no other weapons are worthwhile.

Even in Gears 1 there was a loaout weapon that was superior to the gnasher at long and mid ranges and could even win a CQC due to the insane tracking and hitbox of melee moves in that game.That whole “Gnasher is THE O.G. competitive base weapon” is a MYTH created over time by gnasher fanatics

Tell me then, why was it so often in gears 2, 3, and a bit less in 4 that the vast majority of players only used the gnasher? Dozens upon dozens of matches of just entire teams rushing around the map with just gnashers. It’s because of this attitude and how powerful it was. Anytime something threatened the gnasher dominance people complained about it.

People did that because it was and is the most fun thing to do. If you wanted to use a rifle, not only would you be able to, but if everyone on your team was using the gnasher, it would be extremely beneficial. Watch any pro game from any gears game at all. Rifles rifles rifles every where. They dont need buffs to hell and back to be considered good. I myself always used a rifle in gow2 execution and I despise this new meta.
It was totally crazy to me back in the day, when they released GoW2 with how they altered the gnasher play. GoW2, for personal reasons, I consider the worst game sequel of all time. It ruined my favourite game haha. Admittedly though, I’m enjoying Gears 5. But that’s maybe because I’m now only a casual gears player. I don’t think I could session this how I used to.
I’d like a devs video or live stream of them going through this forum and addressing and commenting on the posts within here, no matter how critical. It would be interesting, and I’m sure we’d all like to hear what they have to say. Maybe they’ll explain some aspects of complaints and make people realise it was necessary or whatever,
Maybe we could all band together to get such a request as the top post within this forum?

The thingTC don’t understand is the gnasher CCQ. Is what made the multiplayer popular in the 1st place and i promise you tht as soon as another shooter comes out, most of the new players will leave and only the real fans will stay for the shotgun duels, but we wont be here either if the gnasher isn’t fun anymore

Also, why is everyone ok with rifle auto aim in ranked? This is not Overwatch FFS! 
No it isn’t. The Gnasher was the O.G weapon, it required the utmost of skill. It was heavily used in the competitive scene. Sure the games didn’t totally revolve around the shotgun. But I bet you they had the most play time throughout the first Gears. Competitive and noncompetitive.
The entire weapon damage needs reworked, then there’s still the massive issue with the Gnasher, the mechanics of it make no sense! You get kills with shots that completely miss, constant backpacking like in gears 1, shots that are hitting around cover and through walls.
This game right now is a hot mess and should of been delayed.
I’ve actually had quite a few classic gnasher strafing shotgun battles so far. Something that was sorely missing from gears 4.
Gears 4 was a ridiculous bouncing like a lunatic fest and it was just way over the top with it. I like that they’ve toned down the bouncing in 5.
You can still do a bounce or two to get the upper hand when fighting multiple enemies by yourself, but it’s not the only damn thing people are using now, which is a return to classic gears play 1>3.
I know this will be an unpopular opinion for all the maniac wall bouncers from gears 4, but that was never what made gears, gears. Gears was always about skillful strafing shotgun battles.
Onto gripes… My problems with 5s multiplayer are:
- delay before you can fire after coming out of a roadie run has gotten me killed more times than I can count. I can’t get used to the delay and never expect to have a full second delay before I can shoot the gnasher.
- some games are lancer fests. I enjoy a good lancer battle from time to time, but when the enemy team is doing nothing but lancering and you’re getting crossed from every conceivable direction, it’s very frustrating.
- footsteps are broken. You only hear the enemy when they’re like one step away from gib range. It really needs fixing.
So whilst there are issues, I feel like this game has the potential to give us the classic gears gnasher battles (from gears 1>3, when the game wasn’t just bouncing all over the place and spinning the camera like a madman).
The strafing battles take skill and are really rewarding. The thing that is making them a bit rare right now is the new verticality to the levels, which results in you getting lancered down whilst trying to have a gnasher battle.
Ye because thats how the majority of the community CHOOSE to play gears
I do not think so. Most were just used to bounce all day and that style of gameplay favours the Gnasher yet another weapon was better in most situations imo
