[Feedback After Tech Test & Release] Gears 5 New Inverse Omen

I disagree, In my opinion the Omen blocks the center of the screen and currently in gears 4 it is really hard to see the aim when you are damaged. It is good to give your feedback to the devs, but how can you give them feedback on something that you haven’t even tried? There is a reason they have a tech test 2 months before the release so we can play the new modes and see the new changes and let them know what we think about them. So lets try it out first and then judge it.

I agree it makes sense I have had it block my view of things. What if they made it an outline instead of the entire thing being red but I think it is a better idea to not have a big thing in the middle you cant see through anyway.

The entire point of the Gears 4 damage Omen and previous Omens is to block the center of the screen and make it more difficult to aim…

This new Omen just blocks the side views and leaves the center completely visible which reduces the skill required in my opinion

Well, the Gears formula as it stands is over 10 years old… I’m sure it’s good to please the old fans but at some point there needs to be a slightly more fundamental change than just adding new mechanics that already work within the existing thing… and I’m not suggesting to get rid of the old omen. Rather, to allow players to choose which one they want of the two. I can see how this is obstructive but I’d still prefer to try it myself in Gears 5. They could allow you to adjust its intensity as well, so everyone would get what they want. It might not be the simplest option but it would keep all sides of the debate happy. Well, should. I like how it is but that’s almost certainly part of a very small group of people.

Don’t get me wrong here - I don’t want Gears to turn into something completely different altogether(like, I wouldn’t remove wallbouncing from Versus). But this talk of innovation isn’t for nothing… you can keep doing the same things over and over while only adding small little things and it will eventually not work anymore. I don’t mean to have change just for the sake of change. I want Gears to thrive, and I don’t see how it will if the devs keep reusing the same things over and over with only small changes because the community does not want nor accept anything fundamental. The animations have remained nearly the same and have just been smoothed out with some additions like the knife executions and examples you mentioned. I don’t really know if the Gears community really knows what is good that well. Some of it just wants to repeat Gears 1-3 and in all honesty, they seem like the loud minority. Other people here will probably tell you the same thing. If they at least tried it before complaining it into the ground… this particular matter is an example because a screenshot can tell you a lot but others are not so much. Maybe this new stuff which the community sometimes views so badly would actually be good.

That said - I am still looking forward to Gears 5, but that’s partially because I know the story is taking a new direction and the Campaign is most likely a lot less linear. And because I hope that there will still be some more differences to all of Gears 5.

Omen is there to let the players know how close their are to dying. Because having a health bar in a fast paced game like gears is not a good idea because it will be hard to look at the health bar during a fight. Thats why they use an Omen in the center of the screen so you can easily know about your damage.

I agree that the new change seems to block the side views but I feel like that is because of the youtube compression which makes it more intense than it actually is. Thats why I want to try it out myself first and then give my opinion about it. My ideal damage indicator is something that blocks as less of the screen as possible and gives a good information about my health without distracting me from my fight.

Hola quisiera entra por favor

Well admittedly both omen’s block your screen. The old one blocks your center screen your right. Pretty sure the purpose for that is to encourage the player to seek cover and heal up. The new one just seems too distracting flashing red all over your screen. But if you want to wait to see what it feels like I can’t argue that. Appreciate the reply btw.

I can respect that idea of choice. I suppose I wouldn’t be opposed to something like that.
My thing about innovation is sometimes a developer takes on too much too fast. That is my fear with Gears 5. Granted. Haven’t even seen horde or versus so I admit its mostly speculation at the moment.
But I’ve seen some franchises innovate and change up their formula and have it work out fine. I’ve also seen some totally flop. Halo 4&5, GoW J, Dead Rising 4. These are all examples of companies who just have the wrong vision.
I loved Halo sinced I first played Halo 2 and seeing it go down the road it now is just unfortunate and I don’t want to see Gears go through the same thing.
But like I said. We’ve only seen Escape so I’m willing to believe that TC is taking our feedback into consideration. Still another 3 months yet.

Well, I agree Halo 5 was a mess. There is a myriad of things 343 could have done better, and because there’s so many things I’m not going to get into detail with it. I did like 4 however, at least as far as the story side was concerned. Never really got into its multiplayer parts. They seemed to have changed almost everything from 4 to 5, new gameplay mechanics(which, admittedly, I did like as they brought a new and fun dynamic to the combat), characters(I respect trying to bring new chars in but immediately replacing the Chief almost entirely wasn’t a smart move especially when it was implied that there’d be a 50/50 split). Music also seemed very different albeit not bad imo, and I didn’t mind the Forerunner artstyle either. The Covie vehicles looked a bit off though, especially the Wraith.

I don’t think Gears 5 is going to that kind of extent… but it at least brings a few new things to the table. Campaign seems like it’s basically not like previous Gears at all, if my intuition is right. We’ll finally get to explore the world more.

Heeeey , everybody gangsta when you can just edit your interlocutor reply.
I simply did not say that.

lol… really mate.

Its a team game. I cant see a single flank after someone hit me once.

they are trying to kill clutches

you cant see anything after someone hit you with 70% damage

True, you can’t see a single flank in Gears 4.

But in Gears 5, you will. :+1:

Imagine trying to do this while that new Inverse Omen and full on visual overload UI on screen:

RIP Movement.

In interviews and streams we have often heard TC put an emphasis on being or trying different things and this mindset can be a dangerous one once you start changing too much and ruining the entire painting.

TC I believe just about everyone loves the new and creative power weapons you guys have brought to Gears on that front you did well with trying to be different

If they want a change that can be toggled on an off, then it should first be optional, gather the responses of what’s positive and negative and then try to refine it.

Rather than force it on everyone with no alternative.

I’m all for being able to toggle off things like Ribbons and other pop ups but I’m not so sure about this toggle off the damage omen feature.

At what point does it become too many custom options? Are we straying even further away from the Hardcore game we once knew?
i don’t mean to pose questions at you EnVii I’m just thinking out loud

I totally get what you mean.

I just mean simple toggles that make sense.

I would love to turn off Ribbons.

But with the Omen, because it’s such a drastic change, it would have better to keep the old style and allow players to toggle back to it until this new one was used and proven.

Because as you can see, almost everyone has raised concerns over it.

Even on twitter, people are not liking it.

We will all see next month though for ourselves.

I hope everything else is rock solid
