[Feedback After Tech Test & Release] Gears 5 New Inverse Omen

At least you have to aim a sniper LOL

Strong Shotgun = Fun Game.

Tbh, I went through all the Gears 2 Updates and can’t say I felt it OP.

Not with Stopping Power on Lancer.

But still, on topic, that game had a fantastic Omen :grimacing:

With the lag comp and changes to the TU6 spread it was in my opinion absolutely broken. I played Gears 2 Japan on and off over the past couple of years and it was absurdly strong.

Yes back on topic, agree with you there completely

Lancer stopping power in Gears 2 wasn’t even that much unless you were running directly into it. Gears 3 Lancer has like double or triple the stopping power.

And how can you sit there and say TU6 Gnasher was not OP when you can 2 shot someone from literally like 3 roll lengths away. It was ridiculous./off topic

TBH the omen is the same to me in every game, just with more/less details. This new omen is complete trash. You can’t see your surroundings at all, which is way more important than being able to see where you are aiming. And it’s so bright red I feel like I’m having an aneurysm looking at it.

TC completely overdesigned some things in this game. The omen. The crosshairs. The excess of UI info (like the moment someone equips a new weapon in Arcade you see the weapon and their position, HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?!?). The only crosshair I like is Lancer. The rest are just awful. I’m pretty sure if you just slapped on the old crosshairs then the need for this new omen would go out the window.

They said because of recoil they needed the Omen.

Because of the Omen they needed a new health system - hence the sides and all around.

You can incorporate health into the omen, it can also show you it just fine like the last 5 games.

The excessive, dark red screen is just not needed.

Because of recoil? Sorry but no. Recoil existed in previous games, albeit not to this extent. As long as the center of the omen isn’t obstructed (which in past games it wasn’t until you went down), it really is NOT that detrimental to your ability to aim. At least not to the same extent that new omen is a detriment to your movement. I’d rather have a slight obstruction to my aim than a total obstruction to seeing where I can move.

PS. And if the entire recoil system is based on skill, and that skill is based on knowing the recoil patterns, then at the end of the day that means your ability to control recoil lies in muscle memory NOT in visual acuity. If you are good at the game and understand the recoil system, you should honestly be able to maintain a level gun position with your eyes closed.

Yeah,

They say the same things in the video:

I think it’s the only time we’ve agreed that Omen and Health System is bad in 5

Will see if TC has the courage to change / alter it to beyond what they think that works but is almost critically rejected.

I’m laughing so much at the part in the video about the Inverse Omen. Paraphrasing:
“You will always be able to see where the direction the shooter is firing from, but you might not always be able to spot them” - Yeah… No s**t! :joy:

Why couldn’t they have made the centre of the Normal Omen hollow and then bring in the skull once you die, if they needed it for the ‘new rifle recoil changes’ ? :woman_facepalming:t3:

Yeah,

There’s a few ways you can do it.

You can literally just have the inverse omen show direction and health.

The sides going bright red don’t help much tbh

I think they should just give people the option to toggle to the old omen if that is what they want. I would stick with the new one. I think the health and direction indications are way improved. And i dont really feel much of an impact as far as losing vision.

That would be fantastic,

Then TC can see that 99.99% toggle to the old one and only a few stick to the new one

Because:

1). I never felt I couldn’t tell direction on the old one. It literally had a arrow showing you in previous versions.

2). Health is better on the old one. I was used to 13 years of understanding the Omen.

The new one is more confusing in both situations and unnecessary blinding.

There’s literally no comparison when you put them side by side.

Yeah i mean i have played with both since the beginning. I could literally sense exactly how much damage i had with the new omen. I cant tell you how many times incendiary flames on the ground snuck up and killed me in Gears 4. Now i know exactly how long before im going down.

So hopefully, for me, if they decide to change it they give both options. But overall doesnt matter ill adjust to whatever.

The glitchy DBNO is very annoying. You start crawling and get warped back to your original spot, or just can’t move at all to begin with.

Incendiaries in Gears 4 seemed widely inconsistent. I’ve seen people die long after they should have faded, and I’ve seen people stand in the middle somehow taking little damage.

You are right though. Sometimes it appears you are taking very little damage from them, but the next moment you burst into flames.

New omen- honestly can’t see how anyone tells damage direction after taking a little damage. Huge handicap that’s unnecessary.

To me the new omen just felt natural. Even the movement overall felt more natural than Gears 4. I made some moves in the tech test that I couldnt in Gears 4 after putting 300 hours in. The tech test felt sluggish and sticky at times and im not sure the cause of that. Sometimes felt like button inputs weren’t registering. I also experienced some matches that were absolute bug and lagfests. But overall sliding/moving felt more natural to me. And as far as the omen i knew exactly how many more shots i could take before i was going down. Especially in close combat situations.

There’s one natural Omen there

Lol. Its only like that right prior to going down. And it actually seems you recover a lot faster than Gears 4.

It actually appears that when you are full damage like that it takes 5 seconds before it fades. Assuming no additional damage. Im not sure what the recovery time was in Gears 4. Anyone know?

This full screen Death Omen is a very bad idea, just keep the old style with maybe some small red damage direction indicators, that would be a lot better.
