[Feedback After Tech Test & Release] Gears 5 New Inverse Omen

“Give it a chance. Try playing with it first and then let me know what you think.”

???

It’s a visual on the screen. It looks awful. I’m pretty sure when I play the game in a few months and experience it first hand, I’m still going to think it looks awful. Literally NO ONE likes when games shower your screen with red when you get damaged. The classic omen is such an effective damage indicator because you can still tell when you’re taking alot of damage WITHOUT your screen being drenched in obnoxious red.

I welcome change to Gears, but this is 1000% an inferior design.

Like Disney is much better than EA? Nah Disney IS the EA of the Ent. Industry. Harry Potter gameboy and PS2 Chamber of Secrets games were great but otherwise no, not really.

I don’t trust this EA. I’m picking up Gears 5 and Fallen Order (which I hope has a hard difficulty available right away) on Game Pass Ult. and launch day in physical. But that is only because I like Star Wars.

Slightly concerned with the Omen and now Chainsaw change. Does seem to be change purely for change sake, much like a lot of what J was…

Watch this space for cog v cog multiplayer news!
I would be out at that point!

The Omen just has unnecessary UI (all the extra red around the screen/outer edges, it could have be far simpler and more subtle).

The RB change is more gameplay, it allows for a standard Melee attack and then a more extended attack (so far, used for Chainsaw and Breaker Mace).

So one, I really dislike and the other I can see the reasoning as it could improve gameplay and variety.

This new omen looks real bad. TC have done almost everything wrong since they got hands on Gears. The only good addition where the comics in UE. Its ok they make different gears games like Tactics or pop, they should have seperated escape Mode too from the main game and give the old fans a real gears campain with multiplayer. Microsoft can call me up, just write a dm if you want to see Gears be a 90+ metacritic game again. I will try gears5 due to Gamepass but my hype is zero

I feel like it would encourage close quarter battles more. Easily patchable if ever it turned out to be bad.

Gears 5 might make us long for the glory days of Gears 4…

Which in turn will make us long for the true glory days of Gears 1.

Gears 1? Huh…never played it

Why would you make it so effing large? It makes no sense! If you can’t see, you can’t play! We don’t need to do a test beta, we can tell from the screens you give us that it’s too overly massive. Just save the trouble and go back to the original. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!
If you want a change, maybe make it blue for the ice that you’re making a theme for the winter … Just don’t mess with an already well-liked and decent design. Please have some sense TC!

Heh. Cute.

I hate sh*t blocking my screen…

Those damn ribbons popping up on screen in G3 annoyed the hell outta me. Then in Gears 4 they made them even bigger… felt like TC were purposely doing it to me.

At first the health omen in Gears 1 annoyed me and then throughout all the other Gears games they seemed to just get bigger and more annoying, until you got used to them…

And now this monstrosity of an omen… looks like it’s just topped the list. I swear to god if i see an image that the ribbon banners have gotten bigger i’ll start blending my food.

Just hoping it won’t be as bad as we’re assuming once we get the chance to play.

Have you ever considered turning MP HUD off? It seems right for you.

Im assuming this is related to my posts about the mini-map.

No, turning the HUD off is not a solution. I need certain features on my immediate HUD to effectively understand game situations, those being: gamemode, weapon/reload icon and kill feed.

I do not need features blocking my immediate vision: ribbons and other pop-ups, excessive health omens and a mini-map…

Everything else can stay effectively where it has been for many years, within the Tac-Com.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem possible to completely customise our HUD. But turning it off would also get rid of Ribbons from popping up. To me, it doesn’t look like the new Omen or mini-map would obscure my immediate vision either. That’s why I’m okay with it.

The only thing I need on screen is the weapon UI In the top right, objective in top left and a basic Omen.

Everything else can be in the post match report.

The ribbon boxes seem to be even bigger, looking at Escape gameplay.

Turning off HUD turns off Ribbons in Ranked?

Interesting,

The Mini-Map I don’t want but will have to keep it on as everyone else will have it on.

God damn… looks like I need to go buy a blender.

There’s a lot you can turn off.

I also ask / tweet TC wherever possible to have turning off ribbons as an option.

It should be, doesn’t happen in Private and doesn’t need to be Live in Ranked - again, post match report is good enough.

It’s not essential information I need there and then tbh.

If you get a definite answer let me know!

Also can you find out if there’s an option to put the mini-map in Tac-Com while you’re at it?
