Farewell to Escape or

I felt that

Little over dramatic. Escape has experienced the most attention this far.

It will be ok for a little while with just challenges.

When you actually go 9-10 months without any events, call me and I’ll come support the efforts of Escape mains.

Still has the most variety of gameplay, xp, and cards per time spent. Enjoy.

Do you expect them to be pumped out continuously? There’s loads if it’s boring now adding 3 more won’t last long?

What do you want versus maps or escape maps? Quite clearly there’s not enough of a player base to support employing more people to do both. I get people want maps for versus, maps for horde, more for escape but unless you get 5 million of your friends playing that ain’t ever happening.

We could’ve had some new enemies for Escape at least. But clearly no new hives so of course that’s not going to happen in Op 5 unless we get them in player hives and people actually bother playing them.

Well, Horde has been dead since the beginning. Now with duplicate classes allowed, good luck having fun. I’d like to see how long that will last before getting stale again.
And it’s not really our fault that TC ignored other modes. I’m pretty sure there are many people who come back to gears 5 only because of escape. TC has been losing fan base. Now they will lose some more. Nothing dramatic about that.

Yeah. Alot of people (myself included) always felt that GOW5 was rushed to meet deadlines. We always speculated that TC and MS wanted to avoid releasing GOW5 in October/November 2019 because there was a fairly big clutch of high-profile AAA games released around then. As a result TC was always playing catch-up to fix what was basically a game that was broken in lots of different areas at launch.

PVE at launch was pretty unbalanced. JD and Kait were very strong, and Fahz and Marcus was much weaker.

Plus they really under-estimated how much time and effort the Hero system would take to sustain post-launch. As a system, I came to really like the Hero system. My main gripe was always that we only got 2 Heroes per Operation which was too little.

Anyway, point is GOW5 at launch had lots of issues with lack of content like characters and maps, slow release of additional content in the first 3 months, bugs, glitches, poor balancing, lots of ongoing issues with PVP mechanics etc… Over time more and more players drifted off to do other things, so it was always an uphill battle.

It has nothing to do with the number of people playing but everything to do with the number of people working on g5. Horde is a classic mode. Escape is new. So there was a choice which mode to support since they don’t have the resources to support all 3. It was an obvious choice. Horde and versus are what defined gears of war.

I see your side.

I just feel escape mains are a little spoiled.

Horde crowd > escape crowd

Always felt it was a mistake to neglect the biggest part of the fan base for so long.

We would all probably agree TC is either too small or too incompetent to manage a AAA title properly.

I got to like Hero system as well. I don’t know how the game is going to feel like now with duplicate classes allowed, the nerfs that some characters got. I guess I’ll see next week.
I’m a part time YT content creator that focuses solely on gears and I think I’m not going to do anything else post Op5.

I dunno about everyone else, but I personally intend to stick with the existing character and class combinations - so Lahni will always be the Blademaster; and JD will always be the Demolitions! It would just be less confusing for me and my group of friends. I’m hoping that my friends also agree to this (broadly). The only characters I’ll mix things up, is the characters that don’t have an associated class, and possibly the COG Gear. Even then I will probably stick with certain classes as certain characters - I just have this mental block where I can’t allow for certain characters to be certain classes based on my own mental head-canon. This goes back to GOW4, but I would never play as Cole or Marcus as an Engineer for example. Bernie would always be a Sniper etc.

Lol I was actually thinking the same! Like you said I can’t imagine Cole not being a tank and blowing everything up. Some characters just represent one class. Can’t imagine Del hopping to Silverback etc.

I can’t agree to that and play Anya

It had everything to do with the number of people playing. If 20,000 people are playing gears of war this month they aren’t going to invest in new devs to increase game modes and maps. If 50 million were playing there would be enough money in the pot to have enough people to work on all game modes. The amount of people working will be related to the amount playing.

People wanted versus maps, which is fine but don’t expect that dev time to not come at the expense of other features.

What I am a bit confused by is a lot of dev time has been spent on class splitting and balancing and I can’t see more than a handful of people that even wanted that.

Also just to add that TC have also completely devalued Iron - which was one of their main post-launch moneymakers. Sure it’s great for us, but if money was an issue then this was an odd decision for them to make. There’s no real incentive to use Iron on store items if we can get it 7 days later for Gear Coins which are earnable.

With escape being the best thing in Gears 5,( the only thing that they haven’t screwed up massively) then rather than giving it a turn at being neglected and screwed up they could instead hold up the bright spot as something they did right.

Not everything in life needs to be a zero sum game where there are always has to be losers to have winners. Ideally they should be working towards winners and more winners instead of making everything lose.

If I broke my legs(hordes) and had to crawl along on my good arms (escapes) then I would never willingly agree to break my escapes once my hordes started feeling better.

Lol.

You escape mains are a tough crowd.

Take deep breaths.

The world hasn’t ended. There will still be challenges. All the hives y’all have known and loved are still there.

Consider it a cooling off period in the relationship. TC still loves you.

They just want to see other people right now.

If it was true love, they’ll come back.

That was clever. I don’t want to agree but I can’t dispute the brilliance of it. I will take deep breaths and maybe go run 5 miles and see if that old game that was into me in high school wants to hang out tonight

Lol I loved your analogy

A true love doesn’t tell you that they love you and run off with your friend Horde. Or should I say WHORDE!.

And on the run-up to Christmas too. It truly is the loneliest time of year. Screw it, I’m just going to eat and drink loads and get really fat. See if you like that Escape Mode! :frowning:

I definitely agree with the numbers game aspect. I think their data shows Escape isn’t as popular as some of us may think. Especially when they said “it’s a very tough call…” that was all I needed to read.

If Escape was as popular, it’s no way they’ll neglect it, but because it isn’t, something has to take the backseat.

No telling what kind of story the number side of things are saying to them.

Gears 5 was probably the biggest financial investment in Gears history, and, since it’s not even ranked in the top 10 of most games played, it could be all about recouping potential lost revenue, and the time could be around now.
