They are going to lose me. I will play more Apex when the new season of Apex comes out on the 1st October.

If they dont fix this server/high ping problem in Gears 5

Same here. Pings are a joke. Reminds me of gears 2.

Gears 4 was awfull for European but sometimes it runs well … but Gears 5 is catastrophic for european players … impossible to play at his real level … you need more bullet to get down an enemy or kill him … sometimes you came in the back of an enemy and think he don’t see you but you get be kill by the guy in one shot but without never change his position from you ! This kind of things prove the very long delay between what we see in your screen, what the enemy players see etc etc … it’s catastrophic and unfair …

I really want to play this game but after years of Gears IV with those problem, I clearly don’t want to play in this condition on V … put your money on server in EU, MS made lot of Azure center in many country, use it ! Stop to save money on put it on servers !

Sorry for my english

Last week the EU servers where fine. I had 17-30ms ping every match but now I’m hitting 90-120ms.
How come TC?
Maybe it’s not the servers but a problem with the matchmaking instead, putting us EU players on US servers or something?

I love that my shots don’t come out a lot. Sometimes I stand in the face of an enemy press shoot and nothing happens lmao.

120ms is still quite low ping for online gaming, lag compensation mitigates it.

You’re talking absolute rubbish. Body shot point blank to 100 ping players, does 99% damage they turn round and one shot. Dead. Makes shotgun battles pointless and I’m not one to sit there with a lancer.

120ms is not low at all regardless of lag compensation. Either your trolling or you dont understand how networking works.

I’m more annoyed that they haven’t even confirmed it’s an issue yet.

The silence is deafening

This is the number one killer of games - lack of communication

On gears5.com they’ve said:

HIGHER THAN EXPECTED MATCHMAKING PING S

Some players, especially those from certain regions such as Europe, are reporting higher than expected matchmaking pings in Ranked games.

Status: Investigation Ongoing

We have deployed a server-side update that will assist in our ability to identify any factors in these higher ping matches. Our work is still continuing on this and we thank you for your patience.

ETA

Investigation ongoing. No ETA as yet.

Doesn’t look like it’s going to be fixed any time soon

Lets hope the get this sorted before october update is released . Near impossible to play and takes all the fun out of gears 5

They should of been politicians rather than game developers because that response is about as useful as a hog roast at a bar mitzvah

120ms is only 60ms delay to the server 60ms back, lag compensation compensates for up to 300ms in the Unreal Engine. Ping also isn’t always an accurate representation of your actual latency, as ping is checked on ICMP packets, but the actual data is transmitted over UDP. Trust me, I understand networking.

People used to game professionally in the 90s online using dial-up playing with packet loss and 200+ ping, you just have to learn to play with it, lag is never going away so long as there’s distance between server and client.

Without even getting into details we will just agree to disagree. Because everyone knows in a gnasher battle your at a disadvantage with 120ms going up against someone with 20-30. 120+ is not acceptable. Plus any serious competition back in the day was done over lan.

Talking shooters here btw and if lag compensation works so well why dont professionals just play each other from their home countries. Why do people say games play differently from online - lan and so on.

online gaming on dial up was terrible…you had to guess the position of players for shots if they were not local to you. It was why lan parties were so popular compared to today where we can just scrim online. I remember UT99 online was a BIG improvement once I switched to ADSL.

It was terrible, but people wouldn’t have cried about having 100 ping that would be considered decent. The guessing of positions is still present in games today they just do a better job at hiding it with interpolation.

Professionals usually find out they’re good at games on WAN first before going to LAN events or tournaments. A high ping can be advantageous over low ping players because your high ping allows you to see players in the past making it harder for them to evade your shots and your lag can make you harder to hit due to desychronisation from your real position on the server.

Plus you can see slightly ahead of time due to the lag compensation (if within compensation range):

“The client is always predicting ahead of what the server has told him by an amount of time equal to half his ping time.” - Unreal Engine

Many pros do play each other from their home countries… LAN events are only mainly hosted to prevent cheating and for the show.

Like I said. Agree to disagree. Or give yourself a high ping and go one on one gmashers only versus a player with low ping and see what happens. But dont justify the shoddy servers by saying lag compensation sorts it out. Theres no excuses for how the game is running.
