Does Anyone have an ACTUAL Problem with Kait?

Personally my reason for not liking Kait has already been addressed in the thread. The Swarm are essentially the Locust. They are cunning and vicious. Kait is willing to let the Swarm spread if it means she has time to rescue her mother.

One life or thousands Kait chose one life.

I dont have any problem is something different but i think is a good idea

I don’t see this game going past #6 , acid blood creatures that blow up when shot. Don’t this sound like aliens.

Except it doesn’t burn though.

That could’ve been unintentional.
When someone is under stress, they may not think straight.
JD and Del was there and even you could say JD was willing to go after one life (his Dad’s) rather than thousands.
If there’s someone to blame, I’d say it’s on Jinn for being on their backside the entire way through when could have acknowledged and dealt with the Swarm uprising.
How could they have saved a thousand lives when if they went back to the COG, Jinn might have killed them or tried them for treason, going AWOL or even imprison them.

That was a different circumstance. They went there to investigate the mine. When Marcus got kidnapped the snatcher went to the mine which happen to coincide with their original objective. Plus they had a couple things going for the team.

  • Element of surprise
JD and del were trained cog officers
most swarm had never faced an actual enemy combatant

Plus they learned a lot about the swarm which would be beneficial for the cog.

Kait is stunning and brave ! Buckle up buckaroos! Gears of War 5 will be quite the ride.

Well that was pretty sexist stuff up near the top… but anyway I think Kait is kind of like the Dom person I found him to be ‘whiney’ too but about his wife which I think is like Kait’s situation. I think with Kait losing her mother then maybe Oscar made her do sort of what Dom was doing in the Gears 2 game and I think this game is looking pretty neat. Idk why it would be a problem and I hope it isnt just because it is Kait being a girl that it’s getting negative stuff. Is it going to be new everything I wonder or is it going to be much like the other games were.

Kait is stunning? It’s a video game man…I hope you don’t have a crush on Kait although some here do

Mmmm… I don’t have any trouble with that, but someone said (sorry men, i forgot the Gt) that now it’s very easy to bring new characters to the game and that’s not the point, we just forget about the characters that have a cool personality but nice habilities, very tough and their stories being a luckiest and deadliest motherf***ers, because we have already seen it, we have never seen a character like this that is coming, remember Barrick, Cole, Baird, also Dominic… Pretty cool histories that made us love the game, they must find the right way to do this, because we can’t just left behind that pretty Cool characters, remember also Anthony, Benjamin, Clayton Carmine, Dizzy, TAI KALISO… Characters that really earned a place in our minds and the game, also our hearts XD.
I’m Just saying that we need a character with the same or more things like these to make the game loved for it’s way to make us love and feel like them…

I really like Kait, and was so mad that I couldn’t use her in the campaign, she had my  in the opening scene and never gave it back, I am so excited to play as her in Gears 5.

Sorry I thought we were talking about Caitlyn Jenner? Buckle up buckaroos!

I didn’t really care about any of the new characters in GOW4 (they where very bland to me), so i’m not excited that Kait is the lead. But then I wouldn’t be excited about any of them being leads again. Hopefully they add more character.

Maybe i’m just crazy but the trailer gave me the impression the campaign would consist of Kait and Del levels and JD and Marcus levels. Honestly I hope they bring more character to the younger people across the board so I can be more invested.

I heavily dislike SJW narratives and modern Feminism. The phenomena of the gaming industry being heavily influenced by SJW, Feminists and other extremists is a very real thing. And it is dangerous to art and entertainment. Battlefield V is one of the more recent examples of how a game can be utterly ruined by forced SJW narratives. However, I´m not going to discuss this further. Just saw that it was mentioned several times in this thread and I think the outrage for Kait has indeed some root in the rejection of PC culture.

However, I personally do not believe that the choice for Kait was being made out of political reasons. Kaits importance for the further story was foreshadowed in Gears 4. It make total sense to focus on her. I am open for this new approach and I´m curious to see what they manage to do with it. A story about a person, who appears to be the descendant of the leader of an army of genocidal monsters, who whiped nearly all of humanity out, could be very, very interesting and good. It might even become the deepest Gears yet. BUT to me there is a problem. Kait was a very weak character in Gears 4. All in all, the whole cast in Gears 4, except for Marcus and the other old characters, was very weak to be honest. JD was bland and Del was very annoying. Kait was especially bad. She was very whiny and she was acting very irrational for most of the time.
I can understand that the life of her mother was at stake. I can understand that people, especially young adults, often act irrational. But, WTF man. Marcus is a veteran who fought in two wars, against people as well as monsters. He ended the latter and saved humanity (With the help of Delta Squad and more of course.) Maybe, just maybe, it would be a very smart idea to listen to his advice. To listen to what he has experienced in the pod. To listen what this guy is saying, would be the next, best strategic move. This guy surely knows what he is doing. Yet Kait acts like a brat and doesn´t even consider his advice, until they´ve reached the nest and she suddenly realized “Oh ■■■■, should have listened to the veteran and war hero, who obviously has like 500 times more experience in military tactics as well as fighting monsters of all kinds!!”. Yeah, wow. They could have saved so much time. Maybe Reyna wouldn´t have had to die? And what worries me is that I see this typical Kait behaviour in the very first trailer we have for Gears 5. And this is supposed to be the/one of the main characters? I´m not so sure whether that will work. She is, again, acting very selfish and irrationally.

“Screw your orders! This isn´t about you, this is about me”…Jeah…if that speaks for the rest of the story…than Gears 5 campaign might be doomed.
However, I´m willing to give them the benefit of doubt. Mabye Kait is purposefully written like this and maybe she will develop as a character over the course of Gears 5. The same of course applies to JD and Del.

We´ll see how it turns out. I think people are jumping to conclusions way to early. I can fully understand to being distrustful after Gears 4. But there is a chance that it will be better this time. I can understand the mistrust seeing another game suddenly changing it´s main character to a female. There have been plenty of occurrences where this was forced and I too reject PC/SJW culture. But not every game that stars a female lead is SJW garbage by default. That is just a very ignorant view. It may have happened to Battlefield V and Uncharted 4. But at the moment there is nothing that alludes to the same thing happening to Gears 5. Let´s wait and see how it turns out.

Although she does pee sitting down, I’ll try to avoid that in my criticism of her character.

Kait’s personality really hurts Gears of War’s overall main themes for me. This is a military 3PS. Though Marcus doesn’t always agree with command he follows his orders, same with Dom, Dom really only “disobeys” orders when he wants to branch off to find Maria but that really wasn’t disobeying orders. Someone else may come up with some extreme examples of disobeying orders in the OT, if so throw them in. There was a respect for authority and your commanding officer. Baird didn’t always agree with Marcus but he followed orders.

Kait throws all this stuff out the window. She seems only concerned for herself. She barely respects JD’s orders and tries to run off on her own at the worst time. It seems like Gears 5 isn’t going to change this at all. She will just try to run off and do what she wants. It is hard to connect to a character who does this. It is so hard to put my feet into a character makes these kind of decisions. Some people may enjoy her character and can relate but I cannot. Maybe they try to challenge that character trait in Gears 5 but only time will tell.

Thing is Kait isn’t COG - she was born and raised an Outsider. I wouldn’t place this same level of emphasis on following orders and military chain of command as I would on say Marcus or JD. They have quite different origins.

Also Baird had his maverick moments - Judgment being the prime example. Insubordination is a common trope in Gears and in many games, books and movies. It’s just a bit more exciting I guess!

She’s wearing the uniform and referred to as Corporal in the Gears5 Trailer

…Looks like a duck, swims like a platypus.

She would have only become part of the COG army recently - after GOW4. Point is it’s a recent thing and prior she would have been raised Outsider and have no emotional investment in the COG.
