Does Anyone have an ACTUAL Problem with Kait?

thank you

Dont really care , I’ve only play pvp since 2006. I never got close to beating a bears campaign.

Just make sure I can use my locust drone in gears 5

I suppose the thing I’m getting at is, why Kait? Would we be saying that Marcus was whiny for deserting his unit to save his father; or Dom was whiny for wanting to find Maria over reaching the Queen? I gather that the circumstances are a bit different and in the case of Marcus it was primarily covered in the books and not the game, but they function in the same why as a plot device - an important character rebels against orders for personal gain. I just think the amount of criticism Kait has gotten is unfair, especially if you look at the actions of other characters.

If anything Kait’s petulance (“this isnt about you, its about me”) and wish to find out about her lineage is going to open up doors for the story to really develop.

Also on a jokey note, if Kait is a whiny so-and-so then maybe that works well cos then fans have someone to project themselves onto?

I didn’t particularly care for her in Gears 4, but the trailer for Gears 5 looks awesome! I think it makes sense story-wise why she will be at least one of the main protagonists. I think the Gears 4 campaign didn’t really have enough time to do any character justice, except for Marcus but that’s simply because he’s already well-established. So I’m excited to learn more about these characters, by the looks of the trailer I’m sure it will be a very interesting experience.

I guess it’s TRUE that making mistakes in your life is a way to learn new things. Now I know what a bear campaign is… thank you auto correct

I’m quite looking forward to her connection to it all. I just hope that the writers make her an actual character like everyone else in the Gears universe. Personality wise females like Anya, Sam, Bernie etc don’t seem that different to Dom, Baird, Cole (Maybe not so much WHOO) etc If they make her a whiny and full into a load of tropes it may ruin the experience but nothing has told me otherwise (Didn’t really play them multiplayer so unsure about generic sound bites) with the Gears series. The women still make wise cracks and slaughter the ■■■■ in their way.
Depending on the outcome of her connection she may not even be in the next ones.

“And before you say it…pure testosterone is not the point/theme of Gears. It’s not exactly necessary.”

Man up.

Yea… I would rewrite it as well. And what exactly do you mean by if she were black?

Nahh lol i love the “Sit down” and “Dont worry i got em” dialogues😂

Nope, because this is, for me, the truest answer for OP. I don’t want to talk about politics neither, but sexism and racism are a fact in video games. You and I are normal people, we play what we are given, we enjoy it (or not) and that’s it. But some people don’t have the proper IQ to separate the hobby from their stupid beliefs. For Gears of War 5, their first reactions weren’t “this game is BEAUTIFUL”, “wonder who is dead”, “what happened to JD’s arm”, etc… The kind of reaction the trailer wants you to have, but theirs were “should have been called Queen of War 5”, "why Kait?, “Gears of War was never intended to have a female protagonist”, “this game is feminist I will boycott it”, etc…

Here are a few recent exemples :

Do I think Kait was a boring character in 4? Yes.
Should I ignore the efforts The Coalition are doing the make her relevant to the plot according to the trailer? Absolutely not.

To Marcus I would say yes. To Dom I would say no.

We can only hope.
On a side note I read the article you linked and think it’s a load of horse poo.

Interesting. Again I’m going to ask for specifics here about the situations faced by Marcus and Dom. What was it about Marcus’ scenario that made you think he was whiny but not Dom?

I haven’t read the books so aside from the general footnotes I don’t know the details of the events leading up to Marcus’ desertion aside from (1) the intention to desert was obvious and came from wanting to save his father; and (2) he has carrying an essential part of the HOD targeting laser but had forgotten he had it with him until after he left (hence why his unit were wiped).

Basically there are three scenarios involving Marcus, Dom and Kait, all driven by a degree of self interest over the greater good. All involved some uncertainty and a gamble, but all perceived a bit differently to each other.

I guess my question is where does the word “whiny” come from? Is it something about what the character does, says, their motivations etc?

Pretty much by how they go about it. That’s why I compared Kait to pre-quel Anakin Skywalker
