Did koth change? (Discussion on changes Main thread)

So are we arguing that people only played the obj for points and not for genuinely trying to win the game.

Who the heck is going to alter their play style? Not me.

That someone is capping and capping and capping doesn’t make him deserve 300 a pop. I’m right here playing the obj too but im holding a lane. Only time I cap is for quick caps and to re-cap the ring.

I won’t lose position to go hungrily cap a hill, which is something so many people do and it is annoying for me.

I have been told that I don’t play the obj and that I’m not helping just because my caps happen to be low. Nope.

I just 100% disagree I"m sorry. It isn’t the player base’s fault that the ranking system in KOTH doesn’t reflect the objective in KOTH. If skill points are based on eliminations, downs, k/d, then there is no point in creating a separate rank for KOTH than for the other ranked modes. If you’re a diamond TDM player, you might as well be a diamond KOTH, Execution, Guardian player as well.

Caps and breaks do take skill - except in the obvious scenario you provided - to know when the team is weak enough to push for a cap or break and to set up to prevent a push. In fact, it’s inherently riskier to go for caps and breaks, knowing that the enemy team is focused on attacking or defending that area. Sometimes, you run in for a suicide break just to stop the counter because you know your team is there behind you to prevent another cap while you respawn. If you can take a guy or two out while doing it, even better…

Countless times I’ve played teams that out-slay our team but still lose because they don’t rotate or pay as much attention to the hill as they should - they have no understanding of hill control. Slaying certainly has value, but not as much value as actually capturing the objective as a team - it’s literally how you win the game…

Bro, there are times when I wipe the entire team…literally get a quint AND more…on disctrict i wipe them on the side then rotate to their spawn and wipe them again

BUT im not capping the ring so i suck i guess.

I’m 100% with you on this. I personally don’t like having those teammates who only want to capture the ring.

Say on disctrict, on the embar/torque ring - i sit and lancer from the top, clear them out then smoke whichever side they spawn on…but my teammates just jump down there and die die die for 300 points.

Screw that.

This change will make people think twice and that is good.

That’s called playing support. Without ring caps and breaks you lost the match bud.

I try my best to do it all. I may not necessarily always be physically in the ring but I do play the objective. I push, support, cap, break and whatever I have to do. Rarely do I get out captured by much.

There should only be one rank IMO. They all measure the same thing pretty much. Granted, KOTH probably cares less about deaths than TDM, but still pretty similar.

Capping that middle ring on District is useless lol. It’s broken immediately and it takes no skill to keep breaking/capping.

The caps/breaks points was fine how it was imo. If anything this change should have been made to escalation only. If anything, it should have been changed to 200/150 because breaks are super underrated.

exactly! some rings are not played really for gaining points they are better played for holding it uncapped. of course, if you can manage to get a good hold on it somehow then go for it but side rings are the real money rings.

people dont understand those moments in koth.

i hope that this change will make people understand that caps and stupid breaks dont really do much.

Thank you for posting this.

Yeah they always do stuff to the extreme , I don’t see how they didn’t see 30/10 being to low.

Yes, I have long been for reducing these numbers but 30/10 is truly a joke.

I’m the type of player who doesn’t care about anything other than winning but it is easy to see that TC keeps tripping over the same rock.

I’ll argue all day that people shouldn’t chase points in KOTH and die die die for caps and breaks, but 30/10 is not even in line with anything.

A down is 50, a revive is…75? A kill is 175

So yeah, 300 and 100 were maybe too high but 30/10 is freaking ridiculous

TC you did it again …you go to extreme when you do things. Yes the points for caps and breaks needed to be reduced a lil. Not all the way to 30/10??? Are you kidding me . This dude just went MVP for 5 caps and 1 break! This is an objective game! The point reduction should of been down to cap=125 break = 75. That’s how I see it. I don’t like people getting MVP bc they just kill hunting instead of the game mode . And to all you dudes that say kills mean alot they do mean something but if the kill is not around the ring then it’s useless… Change the points more fair. And please TC stop making every change an extreme just make it balanced and fair. How hard is that ! I don’t know how you guys didn’t see 30/10 was to low. Like I could of seen that ! Who do you have hired you got a spot opened for me?

TC over nerf things that don’t really need nerfing, and under nerf things that should be nerfed.

It’s their MO.

Their latest hour long podcast mentioned in-game pts for objectives / kills doesn’t necessarily match up with how much something is worth when it comes time to giving or subtracting pts in the score screen… So, for example, a kill shows 175 currently, but that doesn’t mean a kill is ACTUALLY worth that much to the algorithm when deciding how much pts you’ll gain at the end of the match.

They did say they’re working on matching those numbers up a bit more so they actively reflect what it’s worth to the algorithm. Hopefully that eventually comes.

What will happen if they put 3/1? Or 0/0? Will player’s play koth like tdm?

That is actually a bad misassessment

Agree. What they have done is to possibly alienate the “lower skill” as in “slayer” type player. And you really need to cherish the remaining hardcore!
The support player who plays objective style modes does so to feel they can contribute to the team and have fun doing so without going negative in tdm for example.
This absolutely lessens their impact on the team dynamic.

For shame TC, once again. Just leave things alone. You did it will Hill on UE, when you removed it for Blitz, the community didn’t ask for that. You reverted and changed it back eventually but that is not the point.

Can you elaborate?
