Demo in Horde: powerful, but boring to plsy

Honestly, I’d sooner they buffed back up the Lancer GL capacity to some extent, and massively nerfed the Boomshot if need be.

The Lancer GL alt-fire is extremely fun to use and get good at. The Boomshot is boring to use constantly by comparison, and the lack of ammo means constantly running to lockers if you want to maximize your damage output. As much as it made Horde a joke, I miss the old days of having like 8 shots on my Lancer GL and not having to constantly switch them out.

As the class is now, it’s still a pretty OP damage dealer (especially once you’ve got a full locker rotation going), but it’s just more annoying moment to moment to actually play, than it used to be.

I also think it’s weird to have a class that has cards dedicated to the Lancer GL, but starts… without a Lancer GL

This is why you team up with one of your friends playing tactician. My friend who loves demolitions plays that and I like playing Tactician hence why mine is the only one I have at 20 so far. The problem though is if you give demolitions 8 shots in gl and boom, custom boom and custom GL, ultimate, and lots of grenades all while having bleed damage you have a extremely Overpowered as hell class…

The issue was that they gave bleed damage to explosive based classes in the first place.

What the point of bleed? its basically meant to be a damage over time debuff, the logic of applying that to an explosive weapon (one that pretty much one shots any drones even on Master) is moronic.

Balancing is trash because they went about making classes all wrong, first off they should’ve seperated Escape/Horde classes, second they should’ve had less chefs in the kitchen when it came to making classes but given them more time to do so. Overall balance is superior to what it was at launch, but my point is that the balancing was fundamentally flawed from the beginning.

Hot take, I personally am currently no longer all too fond of the “bleed” mechanic. Maybe I’m too “old school” but I prefer to be straight up shooting them Swarm or Locust to death over firing 2-3 times then letting the bleed damage do the rest. More so for explosives than the other weapons. Only exception might be Reflect Shredder as the ult is mostly a glorified immunity period without it.

Oh, and yes, Demo isn’t that interesting to play. I found some minor enjoyment in dropping nukes on bosses for easy Overload runs to get it to level 20 quickly, then moved on again.

Interesting, thanks, i will try that

Yup, exactly… This is the big problem. It is insane to have same classes and same cards for two totally different game modes… Cant make a character strong in horde because then it is OP in escape. If it is bslanced in escspe it is weak in horde…

Horde only perks kinda work, but we’d need a rebalancing between skill cards and perks…

I’ve heard this before but the “bleed” mechanic (its basically just poison, they called it bleed to sound special ) is a very generic and common thing in games, when you play Escape Venom works in very much the same way. The logic should’ve been that certain classes (ones that were weak otherwise like Medic for example) could use it to give tons of support for boss waves, the idea of giving bleed damage to any one shot weapon (Longshot, Boomshot, Dropshot, etc.) is stupid because it means you can just use that weapon the same against everything. Like speaking about Demo, wouldn’t it be neater if the card only applied to ballistics? that way you would be encouraged to use different weapons/tactics instead of just boomshot everything the same exact way.

Bleed is meant to be a Boss-killer, but bad against Drones, but because they just gave it to these insanely strong classes that can 1/2 shot any regular enemy (Demo, Tactician, Nomad, Infiltrator, etc.) it feels inherently bad, imagine how stupid it would be if they gave Marksman bleed damage :pensive:

Just ignore the guy. He only comes here to cry for nerfs despite barely playing the game.

Hell no. The Split is actual fun now.

I get that to some degree but often it feels more like cheesing the boss over fighting it properly(which then also often takes way too much time when you don’t have bleed classes or just not one with significant bleed capabilities while no one is using or doesn’t have the option to grab a Cryo and no freezers are otherwise present). Wardens and the Matriarch in particular since they’re supposed to be hit in their head/weakpoint for damage but most explosives completely bypass their defenses. And well, we all know how quickly an Infiltrator can wipe the field with anything non-flying or that isn’t a Kestrel at this moment.

I can’t speak to the Wakaatu for its vulnerability to explosives or other high damage attacks and bleed as I have not seen it around a lot. But seems to be stopping bleed when it goes to tunnel underground. Cryo freezing seems to be a thing to hold it in place extremely easily though, not to go too far off the beaten track with the topic.

They probably should’ve taken more inspiration from RPG type games when creating the classes, Demo is a great example of a class with fun idea but bad execution. Demo should be this great AoE Carpet bomb type class that can slaughter smaller enemies but is weak versus bosses, instead they made them the opposite lol.

Again, wayyy too many hands on deck and not enough time to get them right on first iteration. If you asked me what the best class was I would say that Nomad is easily the smartest made class, has a wide variety of cards that (for the most part) seem to be useful, can have all kinds of different builds but I don’t recall there ever being a point where the class was busted/broken, only changes that were made was a perk swap…

@HerrKatzchen in response to what you said to someone else its not so much nerfing but moreso making each class more fun, like Infiltrator for example in my eyes went up dramatically after the so called “nerf” that happened with OP5 because now you are encouraged to get up into them Grubs faces more, before it was sorta like Demo where you sit back and Overkill spam all day, now its a lot more engaging. Infiltrator doesn’t need bleed damage at all honestly, its not a stupid mechanic but man did they screw the pooch with it in Gears 5.

Good suggestions Bluejay, it’s defiantly more so that the demolitions when compared to other classes for the most part is vastly stronger and should be more in line with the other classes so they are balanced properly. Also the new infiltrater is great for the most part and I really like how you have to play aggressively with it now, people will say that the class sucks now but it’s great if used properly just like how it should be. The old infiltrater was defiantly too strong

Definitely, the class is still a reliable source for damage done but using an alternative playstyle at least makes the game more even and more fun than if you were doing the GL-spam/3 full lockers style of play.

Lol. So true!
Was tired of having JD be in every lobby pre OP5. Now after OP5, the class has been nerfed. Finding a person who wants to play as a Demolitions class is rare.

Oh don’t get wrong, old JD was ridiculously OP and made Horde a farce. I’m just saying I’d take THAT kind of OP back, over the current version of OP that Demolitions is.- which is to say it’s still OP, but just more annoying to play because you have to run to lockers 2-3x as much as the old days.

I’d sooner see the class turned into a Lancer GL specialist, versus the current focus on frags and the Boomshot.

My friend loves demolitions so idk what you guys are talking about. Either that or gunner is his favorite.

Your friend prefers to play as Demolitions class even after the OP5 update?
Just curious…why?

One problem for me is that a Boomshot just isn’t as satisfying to use compared to a Longshot. I know its just bots, but still, it requires a tiny bit more skill compared to a Boomshot.

You have to be a lot more selective in what you kill now, because there is less ammo, unless you get an engineer that gives you 2/3 lockers, which you don’t really need to get damage on this class.

The Ultimate is fun with Officers Prerogative, but it still doesn’t change the inconsistency of the ultimate. Sometimes all the shells hits the Guardian, sometimes none do. A little frustrating.

I also would much prefer to use Tactician over Demolitions, a Tactician provides much more support to the team and can put in damage, and isn’t as reliant on lockers or another Tactician.

I wouldn’t say he prefers it nescisarily but he understands that it needed to get nerfed for balancing purposes. Despite the nerfs he still thinks the class is a lot of fun and it’s his preferred way to play the game. The class is still plenty capable you just can’t spam explosives really anymore which is fine

Don’t play horde anymore it’s the easiest solution for you

just build a locker. idk why people act like you cant spam explosives when lockers exist.

The thing I’ve heard from people that they find the class boring because they constantly feel like they have to run back to lockers to get more ammo now. All my friends who play demo don’t mind it though and realize it needed to happen.
