Competitive audience has been sold out (core)

Gears 1 and 2 were so popular, no Tdm or respawn trapping, no power weapon camping possible. had steep learning curve and wasnt noob friendly with cheap weapons kills. more freedom with no stopping power and perfectly balanced rifles power. The need to set up a strategy and work with team mates every round instead of this mindless respawning and most of all the game was so unique but now its just another casual shooter trying so hard to please a larger player base but it never did. Gears 3, judgement, 4 and now 5… this game will never be mainstream or the go to shooter. people.will always leave as soon as the new cod comes out.

Epic games and TC could have focused on what they had in gears 1 and 2. The most two selling games of the franchise btw. its what valve did with counter strike. but nope the greed of making this game mainstream simply botchered the franchise

Lets not forget Epic made a EPIC failure in Judgment and tried phasing out the gnasher with Gears 3 - Retro, Sawed off, stopping power. Also people need to stop acting like Clif B was the only person to work on Gears.

f^&kin PREACH, man. I don’t think any of us have liked absolutely everything about every game. When GoW2 came out, the forums were filled with people who just wanted GoW1 back…those same people couldn’t wait to get GoW2 back when GoW3 came out. People are ridiculous, and predictable. Which isn’t to say people have to like this game because they don’t, but so many people play a new GoW game for 15 minutes and are like “welp, screw the company, the whole series is dead, I can’t believe muh butt-hurt”

Agreed in parts but Epic was the creator of gears so those of us who played gears 1 onwards all seemed to like there version and TC is nowhere near that, the closet they got was UE and that was just EPICS blueprint and TC even messed that up,
TC are taking this game into a very unappealing era,way to many customization’s now ,They just added stuff for the sake of adding stuff, honestly it like a george lucas star wars re-edition ,way to much of nothing and not enough of something good, Time for old gears fans to accept those days are dead and unless they turned the servers on for the old games we will never get a game close to them from TC.

You dont think Epic would have done the same thing??? Go back and look at some of the weapon skins in Gears 3 and the Character/Weapon skins in Judgment. Epic was on the same path. Sh*t Judgment had worse skins than Gears 4.

I like what TC is trying to but thats just me

I hate to agree with you but i have to. To grow in anything you have to change and adapt to the current situation and i think that’s what they are trying to do. the game isn’t live yet for me so ill definitely be playing to see how it feels but i do wish that they would adjust damage as well. i Started playing from Gears 2 so not a 06 Vet but i still think 10 years of playing the game gives me enough insight on what it should feel like or at least what i think the community thinks it should feel like. back then lag played a big factor in how the game felt (which is why host felt like they did so much damage.) now tech had improved meaning “everyone is host” if you know what i mean. The shots may still be inconsistent but they are a lot more consistent then they were back then so we are going to feel it more. some may see the lag back then as a flaw because of the issues it caused with shot registration and such but i feel like it was a blessing in disguise because believe it or not that lag is what gave gears the “Gears Feel”. What i mean by that is being able to bounce around to make opponents miss and such. it was easier with the lag now its not because the game is built better and the servers it runs on are better. so yes I agree with change and adapting to keep the game alive because i don’t want this franchise to ever die but i do wish they would do a bit of adjusting to the damage scaling to make it have more of that “Gears Feel” we are use to.

I mean there was still annex in GOW1 and KOTH in Gears 2 and you could definitely be spawn trapped.
All the games have a steep learning curve for new players, even more so in later games with movement. There is most definitely cheap free kills weapons too, such as the boomshot in every single game. And don’t get me started on double melee or the two-piece .

The lancer in gears 1 was almost useless unless you were host (same with a lot of things in Gears 1) and the hammer burst in gears 2 was ridiculous with rapid fire controllers. The whole “more freedom” thing was because the hit detection and general buggyness of both games allowed players to do so.

I wouldn’t have ever considered Gears 1 or 2 mainstream either, but to each their own. I have fond memories of 1&2 but can acknowledge they were riddled with BS and awful gameplay mechanics. It’s natural to move away from broken and clunky gameplay

Its sad when you see people that couldn’t play competitive on gears 4 always at the top of the scoreboard on this noob friendly game!

No wonder they got ninja to play it , with the influx of new players they need to make it easy mode so people dont quit .no steep learning curve , insane damage ,homing melee ,op lancer…game is a big let down!

Hi,

I am wondering be it noob , rookie , seasoned player or the very gifted if Gears 5 was trying to solve the problem of mixing high ranks with lower ranks.

Here is what i mean.

If the vets and high ranks killed it in 4 then they will kill it in 5 stands to reason. If its a little easier on the lower ranks that may help in match making. lots of complaints of high ranks not finding matches and as we see now in Gears 4 they are placing low ranks in high ranks lobby. both groups lose and the high ranks just get really upset with low ranks.

Maybe i am reaching, but maybe now a low rank can contribute in a match of higher ranks and everyone finds matches easier. The last season in gears 4 saw a large drop off in core because they where getting destroyed and hazed by some higher ranks. The lower ranks want to play and have fun. not sure its a good idea to restrict them or anyone group for that matter.

I thought social is for the very new to get started, but at some point they want to transition, so now comes core. then when you get to high ranks you move to competitive.

Could not agree more MANTIS.
I have no problem with them catering for the bigger audience but the fact that they have ONLY catered for the bigger audience is a real problem, they have completely abandoned all of us veterans and left us to rot. Why not give us the option for comp tuning in private lobbies and why no execution on ranked… it’s not hard to just give us them 2 OPTIONS!!!
SHADY moves TC!!!
So when all the newbies leave the game after 6 months and all the vets have already left, they will have no one.

Well I completely disagree, I think 5 feels amazing. Nostalgia glasses maybe? This is miles ahead of the first 3 in terms of movement, and I personally prefer it over 4. As for tunings, people can complain about it all day, but I’d REALLY rather not have more post-launch tuning changes, so maybe let’s all just get good at the game as is and not complain that it should suit our particular style exactly?

In all honestly it feels great. You gotta think that they’re also introducing it to PC, which also brings in many new players. They can’t mimic old games or the old style. The gaming industry is constantly evolving and people want new most the time instead of nostalgia factor, or old playstyle cause at the end of the day that’d make us playing the same thing.

I did, because I hate Escalation, and couldn’t find a match in execution.

Every weapon is OP.

It’s sad really.

That’s your opinion, which you can state like it’s a fact, but I would still disagree with lol. My point is just that you can’t please everyone and constantly changing tunings (or god forbid bring back two tunings) would be awful. Core was always the more popular mode so it makes sense to do an in-between in terms of damage output along with other changes like the Shotgun having no active and only 6 shots.

Core was more popular because of KoTH and TDM.

It was the modes, not the tuning that made it the most popular

Only got to play half a match before I got kicked but I will say that that 10 minutes or so seemed better than tech test. Felt different (less clunky) but not sure if it’s my imagination or they really changed something.

Can’t wait to play again :+1:

As far as the damage and slower movement, I totally get where you guys are coming from. It’s an adjustment for sure. Once you find the adjustment you probably won’t be quite as pissed is my guess. Outplays and clutches are still possible, just not the same way.
