He’s no different than Gears 1, as the human embodiment of hype.
May as well complain about Marcus never smiling and Baird always being obnoxiously sardonic (at least until Gears Judgment).
You should try out Judgment.

As a white guy, Dizzy is a stereotypical redneck yeehaw man and he’s my favorite COG in the franchise. That doesn’t mean we’re all like that. Everyone has their stereotypes. Doesn’t neccesarily mean they’re bad. You’re looking too far into this.
To be honest I always saw him as a stereotype, but gears 3 did a good job of making him seem more than that
He’s not looking too far into it.
When Gears came out in 2006, Cole was a stereotype, full stop. Even in the end credits song.
His character has not been allowed to evolve much in the main games. Look at Baird’s story. Look at Hoffman’s story. Cole has been one-note for a long time. This doesn’t mean his character is bad, it means the people who wrote the story did not spend as much time on him as for other characters.
Now we have Del, Keegan, Fahz, etc. Characters that are starting to get more nuance even if they do have some strong personality traits. Like Del’s loyalty or Fahz’s ego.
I was more referencing the “racial undertones” aspect of his post.
That was accurate too.
We went decades in the gaming industry where almost every action game’s main character was “generic white dude with short black hair and a five-o’clock shadow.” This meant that other characters fell to the sidelines, relegated to stereotypes.
And those characters were criticized too but that was more because they were boring and played too safe. I highlighted Dizzy earlier to show that white characters aren’t exactly safe from tropes either. Theres just a little something for everyone in Gears.
That’s what I was saying
I know. Just one of those instances where I can actually say “you’re both right”.
This video is great if people haven’t seen it.
You need to pick a side
Carmine Must Live.
Invite me if you see me online. I’m up for at least a couple more matches of KOTH but then I need to work on the TDM medal
I see your point with dizzy but there are also several other characters in gears two to round it out. If Dom was a stereotypical Latino that would be a good example as he is the only representation in the game. I didn’t mean to derail the thread I just think Cole is trash.
I figured Franklin would be the biggest contender for the problematic character rather than Cole.
It’s still hilarious to hear Dimaggio try to sound like he’s got the pass, I kinda miss him.

Nah not rn, I got medals I wanna grind and I’m listening to Bloodlines.
I have to ask, how does audio work? Is it same reader, a computer voice or different readers? Like does this Laura Bailey person read out Kait’s quotes in book?
Usually there is a voice actor who reads everything out. But only one, I think, rather than having the individual voice actors read the character speaking.
I wonder if they mimic voices. Like differently for each characters. Maybe it’s better than reading a book. To just listen.
