The difference is Gears 3 already came with a fair amount of characters at launch (that didn’t require grind) and Prescott is a prestigious character, so it made sense he took time to unlock. It is not comparable to 4 characters who should’ve been there at launch, who can’t be earned simultaneously (this is a big issue), and require hours of playing game modes that are quite honestly not that enjoyable.
And I’m sure there were plenty of people who weren’t happy with what it took to unlock Prescott, but it can be forgiven because Gears 3 was fun and has plenty to work towards already. I think a big part of the issue for a lot of people in this thread is that they’re just not happy with Gears 5 in its current state, and this is just another reason added to the long list of grievances. This whole game has just been a shitshow from the very beginning, and with the amount of money and people behind it, there’s really no excuse for things to be this way.
Nobody in this thread (except one) is saying they want the characters for free.
People generally WANT to earn their characters. I liked the requirements to get Prescott because having it shows the work I put in, and since it took awhile to get, less people had it which made it feel cool to have. But there’s nothing cool or fun about ‘earning’ these characters. Anyone can just buy them so having them doesn’t mean anything. The cut and paste challenges they’ve assigned to each one aren’t fun, unique, or interesting. It’s just boring. If TC had even just made the challenges like I don’t know, “Get 500 Eliminations”, and things of that nature, so that people could work towards them in ANY game mode they want, I would not be posting right now.
