Black Friday Deal is Unacceptable

33%??
I have friends who bought Gears 5 with a 60 to 63% discount.

Doesn’t stop the fact it sold over 5 million copies but whatever, I have yet to play it however all my friends much prefer it over Gears 5 :man_shrugging:

@Aquiles_WARS New or used copies? Where I live I have not seen discounted prices outside of used copies.

Retailers (Amazon, etc.) and Distributors/Suppliers (Microsoft) set sale prices - not developers (TC). Are you complainers really this unaware of how supply chains work?

Black Friday sales are standard industry practice even for young games. Stop looking for stupid reasons to hate this game or to hate TC - you’re just muting the real criticisms.

I’m sure all this has been said before but I couldn’t bring myself to read all the butthurt BS.

New of course.

The price is in Mexican pesos and doing the conversion is 28 dollars.
In other stores like Liverpool, it has been even cheaper.
And these are prices before black friday.

It’s a matter of a short time before we see it with discounts of at least 75%.

This is a decent deal for uk

Maybe there is going to be a time that they will give it for free… I mean I wouldn’t get surprised.

If we all stopped playing it , they will give it for free LOL .

Gears is 50% off and borderlands is 33% so not exactly the same.

I do think this was done because of the dwindling player base. The way it was falling lower and lower down the Xbox live charts and also the awful steam stats, and black Friday could not have come a better time for them…almost like this was planned out in advanced…but this is just my opinion.

But say what you will its kinda working, Steam player base has gone up from 300 a day to now around 1700. The xbox live charts not so much.

I know it is Black Friday (which I pointed out in the title) and I know they want to sell the game. I am also aware of the situation that TC made less money because of the GamePass. And so they made the Microtransactions so overpriced. I just think it is just rude to everyone who payed the full price and all we got was nothing but trouble and hate for a franchise we all love for years (oh… and a imago skin which was very limited and cool in Gears of War 4… which lost it’s meaning now since everyone got that skin as a reward for… not quitting the game yet).

Games such as NBA 2k and Borderlands 3 faced simillar troubles with the fanbase and bad game decisions (+ overal a poorly polished game which is clearly not finished). Both of them had a similar price drops like Gears 5. Games such as Monster Hunter World Icemorn on the other hand haven’t faced any price change. A game which is out for years and recently re-released with a new DLC.

All I want to say is, that I am really sick and tired of Gears 5 constant downward spirel that each bad thing I come across feels like another stab in the back. A pricedrop THAT massive just killed it for me.

Not sure why this is a surprise, even games that sell well can get heavily discounted within a few months after the release date.

If you buy on day one then day one access is all you are purchasing (plus one or two exclusive cosmetic items maybe) and it is quite naive to think that any game will hold it’s value once sales have dropped off.

This has been the case for ages now, I can remember back in 2011 buying Skyrim brand new for Ā£19.99 (approximately a 50% discount) one month after it’s release date.

We all knew that Gears 5 would be immediately available via gamepass and then earlier this year there was the option to upgrade our existing gold memberships for £1 (or the equivalent amount for your currency of choice) to gain access to this game (plus the likes of Metro Exodus, Devil May Cry 5, The Outer Worlds, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider etc) at no additional cost.

If you absolutely needed to have a physical copy then getting it via gamepass initially and then buying it once it had been heavily discounted was the way to go.

See, you say this, but I feel like you haven’t really absorbed what it means. What is the statute of limitations on how long people should have to pay the same price as you?

Discounts on games - even games that have come out as recently as September or October - are completely routine in November and December, and have been for years. The holidays are a once-per-year massive sales period for companies, and they will try and soak up every last dime. I can also 100% guarantee you The Coalition had absolutely nothing to do with any of it.

When you buy something new as soon as it comes out, you do so understanding that you’re paying the ā€œearly adopter taxā€.

I am aware of all that and I know the meaning of Black Friday. You just have to read more of what I actually say than just Black Friday and price drop.

Most of the rest of what you say is miscellaneous complaints about the game’s overall monetization and so on, that have nothing to do with the Black Friday discount.

There is nothing wrong with the BF sale.

I really do feel that the gamepass for 1 dollar affected this game. They designed the game to be money-hungry in order to make up for that money. They have given us crap content - quantity and quality also due to not having sufficient funds.

Now look at this and they are STILL trying to recoup that ā€œlostā€ money.

This is why for me, I’m still in the minority that would rather pay extra for TRUE dlc like gears 3 or borderlands or whatever.

That way the dev is not constantly throwing it at my face that they had to sacrifice some bs due to the price or it being free.

Free maps in gears 4 gave us a time when all the fan favorite maps were taken out of rotation and a poor season pass - but that season pass robbery gave us a lot of free stuff.

Gears 5 - they are eternally after money.

I don’t disagree. At all. Unity should never have been released the way it was. Gears 5 wasn’t THAT bad but it needed work and yes they should have delayed it. Like when Epic delayed Gears 3 for six months. I’m just saying that until companies get their act together, waiting worked for me.

I agree to that. I rather pay 30€ on a season pass for true DLC content (Story and multiplayer DLC’s like in Gears of War 2). Paying 10+€ on top of the standart edition for the ultimate version, which only contains 2 character packs and some booster days, is just cheap. I gave them a benifit of a doubt at first but that didn’t turn out that well because i only used like 10 days of all the 50+ boost days. I miss the old days of gaming

It really didnt though. Look at Forza Horizon 4, no crazy mtx and had 4 million monthly players (not sure how it is lately). The launch with all the bugs and trying to cater to a different type of player affected it

Why are we blaming TC for Black Friday sales?

I’m not sure exactly - especially as sales aren’t controlled by developers.

I think blaming TC for everything is just the popular thing on this forum right now. I scratched one of my new car’s rims the other day - better blame TC for it.

Side note: COD: MW 2019 is also heavily discounted at the moment (30%-40% off depending on the retailers) but hey, let’s not pay any mind to that shall we.

Terrible post. I had to laugh because almost everyone on my Xbox friends list are people I met on Gears but I see more of them playing Borderlands 3 than Gears 5. Many of them had never even played a borderlands before this one.
