Thoughts? Who do you think was the better antagonist?
Spoiler…
Added a spoiler warning in thread name as discussion could end up spoiling parts of the tactics story.
Ukkon for me. He has more depth to him with his origins, abilities and experiments/creations than Karn who was simply presented as “The Locust who kicked the Gorasni and wrecked Halvo Bay” while never saying a single word up until the point where he’s killed. Karn wasn’t really built upon and didn’t have much of an effect on the war after his death, whereas Ukkon did due to his “work”.
Ukkon, he has more depth and he vapes.
Though I prefer the Locust not talking so clearly in Tyran, it should be reserved more for the Queen and I guess the now evolved Locust through the form of Scions.
But don’t forget this piece of background for Karn
“Karn was born as a malformed Drone and was considered an outcast. Young and feeble, he explored the Hollow and eventually came upon an injured creature he named Shibboleth, which had suffered a broken leg. Karn saw the creature was just as alone and forgotten as he was and decided to fashion it a new leg, forming a relationship with the beast.”
Might not be much, but it did make him kind of sympathetic in a way. Being born disabled, befriended a mutated disabled corpser, and rising up the ranks based on intelligence alone was definitely something
Well, yes, I was aware of the Shibboleth thing. But when it really comes down to it, that part of him isn’t gone into in Judgement where he’s “just” a Locust General rampaging through a city and nearby military installations. He doesn’t come close to Ukkon who kinda seems like a megalomaniac scientist doing all sorts of experiments and creating dangerous new creatures, and apparently originated at New Hope.
I definitely agree that Ukkon had more depth. When I started going through the cutscenes I wasn’t expecting much… but I thought they really did a good job. In fact I think one of my issues is I found Ukkon a lot more intresting than any of the main characters
Definitely Ukkon. Karn was kind of a pushover in the end. Ukkon had a bigger long term impact on the war with Brumaks, Corpsers, and Beserkers meanwhile Karn was a testament of how weak the UIR and COG forces are. (A former sports star, a skank onyx cadet, a sarcastic engineer, and a soviet stereotype did what two entire armies couldn’t.)
I mean destroying the UIR after e day is a pretty big feat.
They were still quite a power. I feel like if the cog and uir had the chance to combine their minds and weapons arsenal they would have been much more effective. So in the long run I think Karn’s victory against the Uir had a big impact on humanity’s ability to fight back
Back to my last statement, 4 gears did what two armies couldn’t, so they weren’t that tough
Well, if we’re being fair, there probably was a share of plot armor involved for both cases. And I think there is a point to be made that Gabe’s squad did assemble a (small?) task force to charge into Ukkon’s factory and bring him down. So it’s not like he and three other soldiers took him down all by themselves, just the final fight was like that. Couldn’t exactly count on Prescott’s support at the end either.
Besides, in neither case the COG seemed to have been willing to send an army after them. Loomis refused to realize how much of a threat Karn really was if he was allowed to live(let me say this, Loomis really was just stupid). And Prescott somehow thought he didn’t have to send Gabe any help and instead made him build a small army himself to hunt down Ukkon for god knows what reason. Questionable decisions from COG leadership aside, I suspect there was a mixture of luck, plot armor and capability involved, to lead to the defeat of those enemies.
And while this is about prequel Locust “villains”, couldn’t you apply the same to RAAM? Armies couldn’t kill him, but two lone soldiers fighting off a large number of Locust on a train did?
Yeah I didn’t get the whole RAAM fight and I’ve always had beef with it. But for RAAM, its kind of makes more sense since he was on a moving train and he couldn’t be reinforced properly and its not like he was riding a giant monster
If Ramm was taken down by 2 , whiles Karn was taken down by 4, then by extension Ramm must be really weak. That’s why your argument doesn’t make much sense. How about Skorge? Myrahh not tough either? Being defeated by elite cogs doesn’t suddenly make them less impressive
Did you even read my post? RAAM in a way cut himself off by being on a moving train. The only reinforcements he got were Reavers. Karen and Ukkon had their reserves at the ready and still died.
Did you read my post? The logical extension to your reasoning is that Myrahh, Skorge and Ramm were all weak
Yeah they all are but RAAM. Skorge was overpowered numerous times by Marcus in the chainsaw battles despite being almost twice his size. Myrrah had to hide behind a giant bug and led from the rear, only coming out to attack weak stranded settlements. RAAM wasn’t weak because he proved he could hold his own without a giant beast aiding him 24/7, and was able to fight without the same level of reinforcement.
I mean I guess, if that’s the standard you use for determining the strength of villians. I personally thought the Kryll were more of an issue to deal with, than any other boss I faced
If we look at it, Raam was a big bad a$$, all the other bosses than we fight are on a giant beast or they are a giant beast, Raam went with is D*** and is knife on the train( and few guard and krill) ^^
