Beta Balance feels bad

I just want to say as a complete noob to modern gears, the beta balance feels bad compared to what is live now.

I’m on PC and haven’t played Gears online since Gears 1 on xbox 360 which was tons of fun back in the day.

The aiming on PC feels good with the normal balance but the lancer seems too weak in beta and the weapon switching is so slow. Playing at 120hz is nice and the graphics are amazing but the game micro stutters sometimes?? It seems to be at random but maybe it’s more likely when people leave and join? Not sure but I have 140+ fps, even with everything on low there are occasional micro stutters which need to be ironed out.

If the balance can be tuned and multiplayer be installed without the need to install the massive 100+gb of everything else I think this game has a chance on PC. Keep the gameplay similar to quake, keep it fast plz not slow like the beta.

I say you best bet is to get use to the way it’s going to be. You got a great chance to learn the new tuning before you become accustomed to the old.

If you go into settings you can select what portions of gears you want to uninstall

They slowed down various aspects of the movement, so nerfing the rifles and slowing the swap speed is a proper tuning balance. It will definitely be an adjustment if you’re used to the faster style of g4.

Agreed. It feels awful, absolutely horrendous. But a few “Pro” players said it was good, therefore TC had it immediately set in stone that it will be implemented without question despite the other 95% of the community hating it with every fibre of their being.

These beta changes wouldn’t be an issue if PvP was actually playable. The problems plaguing this game aren’t movement, weapon, squad size, or store based - it’s the lack of region lock, lag advantage, and bad net code that’s plaguing it.

At the end of the day it’s still Gears and we’d adapt to these beta tuning changes, but implementing these changes while still having all the problems I listed above makes it all moot. Just like this post.

The main issue with this balance is when you’re a PvE player trying to play PvP (like I am, e.g. trying to get those unnecessary Ranked achievements). The movement is soo much different between those two modes as well as all the damage numbers. Especially comparing that to Gears 4, in Gears 4 it at least somewhat felt even in a way?

Since I’m still mainly playing PvE I can move around there much more fluently than in PvP. In PvP it feels like I’m getting stuck everywhere.

Also I just shot with a Boomshot at someone’s feet and they were just like “na”. Do they have to be active or point blank now? I mean like wtf.

Personally the non beta tuning felt wonky too me. I think the non beta tuning encouraged weapon spamming with less of a need for purpose or aim.

With the beta tuning the developers are saying they are trying to improve quality of life, if I’m not mistaken. To me it seems they are trying to make it a bit more forgiving. It’s not as easy to down someone who made a small movement error, for example.

The beta tuning feels more like classic gears which is nicer to me. There are still issues. Switching weapons and even hopping over cover takes too long. Look at a game like warzone, everything is fast, weapon pickup, jumping over things, etc. Gears needs to become more like these modern games while of course separating itself accordingly.

The beta tuning has also turned gnasher play into bot like encounters especially with unexplained delays all over the place.

When I was active on gears 5 I experienced a lot of weapon spamming and OP pickups like the claw and mace just dominated. It was also a Lancer fest in the non beta tuning, especially with maps like exhibit for example. So while the beta tuning is not perfect I like it more than the non beta tuning personally, but I still see gears as requiring fundamental change to take it to that next level. The beta tuning doesn’t fix delays (feels worse in that regard) or “broken net code.” Honestly it doesn’t even feel that different to me compared to the non beta tuning. It seems to me like TC makes slight changes for the most part and the game is lacking one way or the other.

Well according to Avexys and his pro buddies we’re “casuals”…

it starts at the point I’m talking about.

So cringe very wow.
Apparently, pro=competitive and everyone else=casual.

Although whoever called this game dog ***, that was hilarious and I agree. This is the worst Gears ever. 4 was tolerable.

The weapon switching needs to be slow — it isn’t even slow enough in Beta but it’s miles better than on live. I’m of the opinion that the live tuning is more fun, but the weapon swap speed is ridiculous.

You’re right about Gears 4 pve and pvp being almost identical. I agree that pvp and pve are noticeably different in gears 5. Some of that is OK, but a lot of it is totally ridiculous and unnecessary IMO.

I instantly hated everyone in that video. Just because you have a damn life and don’t spend every waking moment playing Gears does not declare you a “casual” player.

“Pro” players are just those sad enough to think it’s a career choice.

Most pro players have never seen a pair of t1ts

Correct me if I’m wrong

Back to square one when the game got released it caters to people that are terrible at gears .
Easy to hit as you run slow
You get downed by a stray pellet flying over your cover even though you’re in cover .
Can’t air back a which is a disgrace really
