That quote is the one that really stings now lol. With the shocking launch and now them gutting Gears 4 this is the one I say to myself when I see people quieting gears altogether.

Everyone has different priorities in a game like this, for sure, I respect that…
For ME, the stupid store and its overpriced content isn’t a HUGE issue - AS LONG AS I LOVE PLAYING THE GAME!
I don’t mind paying for custom cosmetic content; sure, I might be annoyed that I have to pay $ for something which was free (or much cheaper) in earlier games, but I’m also realistic enough to understand their business greed…
What I CANNOT forgive is the game play betrayal… They completely destroyed what I loved about GoW4 versus, all aspects which kept me coming back have been reduced/removed/eliminated, and replacement with crap I hate and which feels completely unsatisfying… So the store isn’t an issue FOR ME: I hate the game play, so there is zero chance I will give them any more money in the future… As such I don’t care about the store…

So they chose to betray existing fans, causing with 100% certainty a backlash and drop in players/supporters, and they HOPED the increase in new players would MORE than make up for that…
Well, they got the backlash, for sure… Did they get the hordes of new fans, buying up banners and marks on an unprecedented basis?
Have no way of knowing, but somehow I think… NOT SO MUCH…

Indeed, everything new they brought in is horrendous. The game is barely recognisable.
I couldn’t care less about the store either.
@Kill_Our_Demonz I know what he’s meaning. I really have no interest in the store, as I said above. it’s not a priority. I’m more concerned about the fact the base game runs as well as a steam train off the rails.

Holy sh*t. This game is so stupid and bugged. Won’t even let me use my preferred characters even though they’re selected. Keeps making me play Mac, even though I only used him for a daily and then switched back to ice Kait. What in the FFFF.
They can’t even get the simple stuff right. They betray the fans, and then can’t even get the mechanics to work properly.
Edit: I just restarted Gears 5, had Ice Kait still selected as my preffered, joined a game, and guess what? I’m still Mac. Sigh

Yeah, if heroes were in Versus. This is so ridiculous.
Every justification for the Hero system and every associated ‘problem’ with the GoW4 system I heard TC mention is paper thin and doesn’t survive scrutiny.
You know what they COULD have done? Remove the class system all together! Put all of the skill cards into one pool, and the player would then choose:
- the character skin they want,
- the 5 (say) skill boosting cards they want to use,
- the passive ability,
- the ultimate ability.
Now THAT (!!!) would be “letting players play how they want”, not this limiting hero BS…

That’d be a better idea. Gears 4 did it right, for sure. Unfortunately I dislike Horde/Escape and barely play them. I’m currently having this issue in Versus, which is why I’m getting so frustrated.

Limiting character selection was horrible idea and actually gives them more work than they need. Ridiculous.
He had a giant hand in it. And clearly since the devs either don’t give a ■■■■ about the series or aren’t fans of it, they didn’t step up and say “maybe the fans wouldn’t like this.”
No. No he’s not. He would screw up gears just as much as rod did. He’s lost his touch and doesn’t care about the fans anymore.

The CQB nature of Gears, with its gnasher combat, makes it somewhat unique… every other game (CoD, PuBG, Apex, etc) seems to be about killing people from far away, with a quick burst of a rifle like weapon.
They can’t make Gears to be like that without completely destroying the franchise: it will be a different game, just under a Gears name.
They can’t Gears notGearsy enough to make it appeal to CoD people but they CAN make it nonGearsy enough to lose Gears fans (which is what G5 is doing).
So all downside, no upside.
