Anyone remember this little Rod quote?

This was from an interview with Rod Fergusson earlier this year.

It’s ironic now more than ever, consider 99.7% of new topics are about TC not knowing what they are doing. He also mentions “We trust you”, which is evidently lost now with even Ryan himself acknowledging it:

Notice the last statement.

I’ll always wonder who exactly gave them the idea to “push it”. That really worked out well, didn’t it? And now more and more people are actually returning to the last known proper Gears of War game, Gears of War 4.

I remember being angry and hoping they learned a lesson from ignoring the community and doing what they wanted to do. Now that they’ve failed hard I don’t feel any better than before. They lost and we lost too.
Hope there’s still a chance for Gears.

We should’ve known when he said gears 4 was to earn our trust that 5 was going to be bad.

of course he said that, every studio wants their game to grow. Microsoft didn’t buy the Gears IP to have it settle at the 3 million unit sales that Gears of War 3 did.

it’s just unfortunate their idea was to give it a Fortnite style Battlepass and Overwatch style Hero system.

The real truth might be that the game will never reach those heights and maybe should settle for less success. go back to the Gears core fanbase and zero-in on that group.

Sh*t, I would say forget Campaign, forget that huge multi million dollar money sink. Focus on Versus, Horde and Escape. Better yet, get dedicated studios for the Campaign and Multiplayer.

@Me0wMix_CatFood Indeed, it was pretty much a betrayal and a big middle finger to the actual fans of the franchise. I know what you mean, part of me is admittedly glad to see them fall flat on their face while they other half is just disappointed considering it’s an official sequel and it’s in such a mess.

@Ramboy26 Same here, I had a really bad feeling from the start.

@DaxterDude …fair enough…

@Goodacre Agreed. If they’d “played it safe” and simply upgraded Gears of War 4 as opposed to the big overhaul then we’d all be a lot happier and the player base wouldn’t have been so damaged either. They’d also have had time to actually finish the game properly in time for its launch date with minimal problems.

It’s just embarrassing at this stage.

What kind of innovation they pushed in gears 5 exactly ?? What kinda delusion is this ??

I don’t get what people are saying here tbh. At least in terms of versus, they didn’t really do anything new with Gears 5 and that’s the problem. It feels like a direct “extension” of Gears 4 with hardly anything new.

No one wants another Gears 4 duplicate. If you think you want that, you’re wrong

People wanted something better than Gears 4. They got something worse. So, people wanting things more like 4 is another way of saying, “If you can’t give us something better than 4 at least give us something as good as 4, instead of… this…”

That would be Gears 3

Rod is full of great quotes, who could forget his “betray” the fans line?

I thought I was the only one that thought this was a dumb move. It’s not too long to say “of war.” I never refered to this franchise as “gears.” But I’m also the type of person never to call someone by nickname or abbreviation.
