Just wondering how everyone else feels about OP4.What are we expecting you in this operation that’s supposed to change gears 5 in many big ways?
I’m not actually expecting the big changes to arrive, certainly not the PvE stuff because I do not see how TC could feasibly make those happen by Op 4s launch when they only decided to change their approach in the middle of Op 3.
My excitement is also reserved after Op 3s balancing changes were largely uneffectful on character viability in Horde overall. I would hope those (likely) coming with Op 4 are going to be better but I don’t want to expect it.
Of course.
I really don’t know what to expect. There are some fairly big changes to PVE modes in the way the Heroes and their skill cards are set up. I was originally hoping that the new Carmine characters would get their Hero skill cards so I have something new to grind and levep up, but apparently they won’t be getting any and this is part of the planned changes. It suggests the characters will be detached from their current skillsets, but in what form, who knows?
I think as a result, I’m genuinely very uninterested in Operation 4 (speaking as someone who primarily plays PVE).
Since I play both, I focused on PvE in OP3. I will switch to PvP in Op4 if there is nothing compelling for PvE.
I’m more nervous than excited.
They’re talking about scrapping the character system and never having skills for the Carmines yet eventually we’ll be able to use the Carmines in PVE. This means that either any new characters in Op 4 won’t work in PVE or grinding up their skills may be like a waste of time if we could just assign scout or heavy or sniper (etc) skills to them like we may eventually be able to do with the Carmines.
This will be especially frustrating if any of those skills to grind overlap an existing skill that the carmines may be able to benefit from without this grind.
So… nervous about that.
From there the other OPs have had cool tour of duty stuff mixed in with a ton of TOD stuff that didn’t interest me.
That will be nice but not exciting just nice till it’s over.
I will be excited if there’s going to be custom frenzy matches finally.
Custom matches have been one of the best PVE features in Gears 5.
So first and foremost, I know everyone is expecting more maps. However given Dana’s explanation of how long it takes to make a brand new map, as well as the work involved with simply porting over Gears 4 maps, I would say everyone should temper their expectations for OP 4 being the operation of maps. I truly doubt we will see any brand new maps (Allfathers Arena and Pahanu) in OP 4, however, I do believe we may see a remake of a Gears 1-3 map and a carryover of a Gears 4 map (my moneys on Impact or Relic). I also think we will see another FFA map, and maybe a new 2v2 map.
Beyond that, as Amicable mentioned, the changes to the hero system were too recent to have any substantial impact on OP 4.
I am excited, but beyond what I have mentioned above, I really don’t know what to expect…
other than Dom, I think Dom has to be in OP 4.
Where did you see news about scrapping the character system?
That’s kinda sad, I like the idea of a class system. They just need to work on it some more
I’m only expecting 1 map per Operation from now on
Not really, tour is done in 4 weeks then I’ll struggle to do the medals because it doesn’t even feel worth it to play any mode atm
And then I remembered that I suck at PvP😓.But I just might have to myself with enough dedication.Ive never been a PvP person except for when there is something to unlock that I have to play PvP for.I really Hope that we get some good maps(#BringBackDayOne)so then this way I can have a very enjoyable PvE experience and I hope that more character do come out quicker cuz it does get very repetitive playing with the same characters over and over again.
It’s more speculation really. TC haven’t given us very much information. The key things they’ve told us are:
-
All characters including Anthony, Benjamin and Gary will be playable in PVE modes in the near future.
-
Anthony, Benjamin and Gary won’t be getting their own Hero skill cards and abilities.
To the best of my knowledge, this is all we have which is still fairly vague. I believe (1) was first mentioned in the Carmine announcement; while (2) was mentioned in a recent Developer’s Stream by Dana Sissons.
Now, if they won’t be getting their own skill cards and abilities, then what happens? It would be crazy if they were expected to just go without anything at all especially compared to the existing characters who do have skills - there would be a significant gap between them in terms of ability.
TC are surely not going to totally scrap the Hero system, at least not the cards which players have been investing alot of time into. That would cause a masive uproar. Even TC surely know this.
So considering these things together, then this surely means that Anthony, Benjamin and Gary will in some shape or form, use the skills of existing characters. This is the bit we’re not sure about - will they use the existing Heroes’ abilities as presets? So say, Benjamin can come in using JD’s skillset, or Del can come in using Fahz’s skillset?
Or will there be a widening of skillsets where for example, skill cards are organised into groupings (e.g.: by role - engineer, scout, tank etc) and players can choose 5 cards from that pool? E.g.: a player could choose 5 cards as an engineer from Del, Baird and Kat’s cards?
Or TC could have something different to these two ideas.
I’m actually glad for the Niles skins. Because I don’t want them
However, my buddies miraculously started playing this game again and we’ve been having a blast in PvP
Schroedinger’s Video Game
“Operation 4: Schrodinger’s Cat”.
Trying my hardest to be positive and It depends on what characters ,skins etc,etc comes to operation 4.,Until then I’m currently on the fence,
Combine all of that with the fact that some options get kind of ridiculous - Like Cole with “Hijack” or Jack with “All the Glory” and you get a pretty high likely hood that Operation 4 may be the OP that PVE forgot :-/
Hey, I think if TC made them all separate characters then they should give them their own cards, they certainly couldnt be cardless, and your right a lot of ppl have invested time into thier cards. I totally want to be able to form a carmine team in horde you know?
I’m hoping that they will give those characters some cards. Otherwise maybe instead of whole characters they should have just made them a skin for clayton?
The pve mode needs to have a looking at for sure but I dont think neglecting characters in a character base system is the right move here
