Another one bites the dust

That’s optimistic. I’d like to think you are right.

How cool would it be to have a dev team that cares about the fans?

What I really haven’t seen a change in is the interaction with the fans.

At least not to an acceptable level yet.

Hmm. I gotta disagree there. If you took the time to watch all the streams this week, you’d see the care and interaction with fans is already there.

If you’re referring strictly to the forums, I doubt it’ll ever be at the level you’re expecting. Forums are simply a dying platform. TC has done a fair bit on the forums as of late, I wouldn’t expect that much more. If you want constant updates, I suggest you follow them on Twitter and watch the weekly dev streams.

TC is extremely passionate about Gears. They’ve made a lot of mistakes with 5, but they’re making it right.

I know a lot of relevant questions were posed to the team that mattered to fans.

Not answering or ignoring them is not a good practice.

And I’m pretty sure we were promised more forum interaction.

Maybe it’s something involved with rumor that splash damage and other studios being taken over by large china corporation? I read recently an article with this information. And Splash damage was resposible for big part of Gears 5 and Tactics.

I doubt this is why big figures like Rod, Ryan, and Otto left TC. Gears 5 simply was not performing well and TC needed a major shake up. After the summit they held, all of these people started “leaving”. Most likely what really happened was Microsoft saw the direction Gears was heading in and they needed to perform a major course correction. You simply cannot have one of your biggest exclusive IPs just fail and die out.

Now a few months later, Gears 5 is about to get the biggest update it’s ever had since launch, essentially an overhaul of the entire game and a reversal of many of the game’s core concepts. The game is poised to be in the best place it’s ever been and the community is overall is pretty excited. This is definitely not some coincidence.

I’m not saying these people got fired, but they were most likely mutual agreements to part ways.

I was reffering to level designer that recently left studio. Most of Splash Damage crew was involved with mp parts, so I’m assuming level design was also in part of Splash Damage responsibility.

That could be a one off, or maybe also part of that same shake up. Who knows.

I think we are under effect of Apophenia, when we mistakenly see some relation in those events. Rods leaving was related with changing studios, Ryans leaving was related to his personal problems, I don’t remember wy Octus left. Noone said why Andius left. But gamimg industry is a dynamic environment. But I can be mistaken. You can be right.

Andius was in a contracted role, she would have left at the same time regardless of whether Rod, Ryan and Liam left at the same time.

Octus had an opportunity at Runescape that he took up, which to be fair is a great role in a dedicated fanbase.

That’s actually really cool.

Good for “Liam” He will always be Octus to me.

Yeah I was reffering to similar article, but Sony wasn’t mentioned Directly, also it was about stopping action transactions of Leyou globally.

from what I remember, SplashDamage was mainly tasked with arting the maps in MP(textures, lighting). design, I assume, was left entirely up to TC.

MS should have made a play for SplashDamage . Not sure how they go and peel that studio off of Leyou without making a bid for the entire thing though.

It’s a recurring thing for MS to hire a third party developer, watch them put out a great product with their own IP and watch the developer walk the other way. Same thing happened with Killer Instinct, Double Helix was hired, they made a fantastic game but they were bought out by Amazon and MS is left with the task of finding another developer to quickly continue support.

Andius was in a contracted role, she would have left at the same time regardless

Can confirm. My time was running out and the right thing came along. It was a temporary contracted role. A fair number of roles are contracted in the industry, that’s why you see a lot of familiar faces on various games.
