Jerry > Maury

My favorite part was that there was always that one guy in the crowd being the first one to yell: " OOOHHHHHH!!! JERRY JERRY!!! " lmao

I mostly agree. Not with everything, but I mostly agree.

But it isn’t a problem that just evades Gears, Apex has been out since Feb 2019 and people still complain about the servers, every FIFA title people complain about the servers. That isn’t a justification for the server issues every Gears game has, but its a problem that very few games avoid.

It should be better though. Its not an easy job, but it should be better.

I disagree with everything the Content Creator suggested.

….which is normally what my default response to that lot is.

It’s very rarely wrong. Most of them make me cringe with their very unconvincing positivity due to being in TC’s pocket.

Lets talk facts, then I’ll sprinkle in some opinions.

Fact: Gears 5 had a horrendous launch.
Between servers that couldn’t handle the stress, a poor in game content pricing structure and a good handful of bugs. Gears 5 was doomed to fail from the get-go.

Fact: Gamers are some of the most entitled of all consumer markets.
People somehow think spending $60 on a video game grants them the same privileges and services as buying a $60k BMW.
Yes, you are buying a product and should expect it the work regardless of the price, however this sense that developers somehow owe their lives and all free time to us is nuts.

Fact: The video game industry is evolving faster than developers can keep up.
Seemingly over night, the industry went from a ā€˜Game Release + DLC’ model, to ā€˜Game Release + loot crates’ to ā€˜Games as a service’ model. Developers who released games somewhere in between these transitions already started off on the wrong foot.

Fact: TC is actually a great studio
This one will get some arguments I am sure, but I will maintain this is not my opinion. It is a fact. Simply look around and see who attends their keynotes at GDC. Look at the talk among other developers on twitter. TC really does amazing work and we shouldn’t let some poor decisions and a lot of bugs muddy the waters. TC possible pushes the Unreal Engine further than any other developer out there. Certainly more than the engines owner Epic.

Now for some opinions

Opinion One:
Had a game as distinctly different and unique as Gears come out in today’s game ecosystem, it would have either been the biggest thing since Fortnite or a total flop. Gears offers something that gamers simply cannot find ANYWHERE else. I’ve been getting gibs with the Gnasher for almost 15 years and its still just as satisfying today as it was then. Nothing scratches my gaming itch like Gears.

Gears’ greatest strength is also its greatest weakness. The challenge of understanding how to survive in Gears today is part of what makes it so fun and addicting to players like me, however this is the exact same reason new players try the series and never come back. Had a game like Gears suddenly launched out of nowhere, unannounced, similar to what Respawn did with Apex, I truly believe Gears could have been one of the most played games in history.

Handing the series over to another studio will not fix anything. I truly believe this. The real challenge to the future of Gears existence has nothing to do with a few bugs or the price and quality of a character skin. It has everything to do with getting more players to try the game and fall in love with it. That’s really it.

The most popular games today have a few things in common…

  • Free to play
  • Are easily accessible to new players but strongly rewards mastering of its core mechanics
  • Fun to watch people play/stream
  • Offer at least one core function that is unique to that title

and also true

  • Has players who are constantly complaining about the servers
  • Has aggressively priced in game content
  • Owned by a major publisher

You may notice many similarities, both good and bad, between Gears and other popular shooters… There are a million and one reasons why Gears is slowly dying and the industry itself has the most to do with it.

He’s not wrong.

The servers have always been the issue in pvp

& most games can hold 100 players with no input delays.

Honestly, that’s facts.

I agree 100% & I’ve always stated the servers is what needs to be updated or worked.

It’s blatantly obvious - I’m sure TC is aware because I’ve hounded them on this.

No tuning will really be amazing with the inconsistency of these servers.

Is it really subjective?

As a community I’ve never met a person compliment these servers.

One game it will be fine for you - but someone will have a disadvantage .

Next game you’ll have the disadvantage & another player will have the advantage.

I’m aware because I’ve known this. So if I have a bad server I’ll adjust.

But to players who come & want to experience the game - as any other game , expecting a neutral server- they wonder what’s going on.

These servers are honestly bad when it comes down to PvP & when I have played PvE it’s not all that amazing either.

Most games can host 100 players & play amazing.

Gears it’s always a coin flip.

I hope next title they focus more so on this issue because it won’t matter how many times you tune a weapon if the foundation is brittle.

Normal people will just lose interest & leave the game is what this man is saying in the video.

Sure, servers have some hiccups once in a while but I have a fairly solid and stable connection and rarely run into any trouble.

It’s usually the players with their bamboo-connection that ruin the game for me instead. And I really wish it would display your average ping and connection-type (wifi/ethernet) ingame next to your GT when posting here. I’m sure a lot of debates could be instantly ended then.

That’s fair.

But what about games like fortnite who host a nationality of people from all over the world every other second with no input delays is all this dudes saying.

& COD, etc

If it showed people who were on cable and wifi
Yoooo people would see a lot of players play this game on wifi

I play on my phones mobile hotspot, I live out in the middle of nowhere and we can’t get anything faster than a 1 mb speed. Is my ping usually around 60 to 70 at all times? Why yes…yes it is…do I care and does it ruin my gaming experience? No…not really

Maybe not yours but it will ruin the experience for someone in the lobby due to the servers having ā€œlag compensationā€ so you actually get a buffer at the cost of players who have 1 ping or 30-40.

That’s why you we have people stating having 1 ping doesn’t mean much in some instances because it buffers Someone while reducing quality for another.

I’m hoping they upgraded to the new engine with plans to tackle this issue.

Certainly other games have - is the point.

Some people play on a mobile cell phone in a crossplay setting with no affect to the quality of 99 other players - also doesn’t matter where you’re playing from.
