That’s not the problem. They’re spending time, talent and resources producing purchase-only content for a game they intentionally starved of it.
Self control is irrelevant, I won’t pay into the store because the practice is utter bull****.

I submit self-control is relevant, They only starved the game of cosmetics, Things we do not need to play the game. The maps will come, but I do agree the game could’ve been released with more.
It’s not a question of defending. It’s just the way it is. In the past it was map packs/season passes. Today it’s micro transactions.
Just being realistic.
Cosmetics besides the fact that Horde is dealing with a very restrictive hero system which has launched in a horribly badly balanced state, both from a player character and enemy standpoint, not to mention the far too high time requirement of the highest difficulty settings, and far too low number of [viable] characters, which are now taking a long time in being added under the banner of “balancing” taking a long time. Escape isn’t suffering from this because it’s just a three player mode and the Hivebuster characters really aren’t something most people will have formed attachments to(not as much as the main story characters, anyway) so it’s easier to remain flexible and cover different roles. But in Horde it’s really bad, at least if you’re not into this hero system which almost always forces you to play with a character you may not be interested in, or you’re expected to conform to the “meta” which has already developed because of the horrible balancing.
Nope, gamers have already voted with their wallets against some mtx practises. Deus Ex MD, Shadow of War, Battlerfront II, Evolve etc sales got hurt by outrage. Lootboxes are also mostly gone.
Microtransactions are here to stay probably. But how they’re done changes.
Absolutely, gears 3 Had it right, why they abandon that I will never understand. This rendition of hoard truly feels like it should have been a new mode like escape.
That’s just a bad deal. Imagen buying the 3 month bundle.
Optional cosmetic microtransactions are the more consumer friendly model for me because I don’t buy them and I don’t have to sink $30 or $40 more dollars into the game on a season pass/dlc map packs to get the post launch content that actually matters to me.
The store is priced to maximize profit and nothing else. Sure they’ll adjust pricing along the way to what they think is best. But the ultimate goal remains the same.
but we had actual content, not weapon skins
What gets me isn’t the total price. Obviously no one is going to spend $750 to get everything. If anything, this is better than the loot box set up because with loot boxes someone with compulsive gambling problems could spend $750 without realizing it. Straight purchases don’t have the same potential issue.
What actually does get me is the utter lack of quality for the premium price. If an execution is $5, I assume it’s going to be something new and cool as hell, not a copy and paste of the same exact execution from another gun. When a skin is $10, I assume it’s going to be something new and cool as hell, not Marcus in a slightly different armor variation that no one’s really going to notice but you. When a promotional set is $20, I assume it’s going to be more than a single side character from a movie that wasn’t out yet with redundant and lackluster abilities and a skin for another DLC character already available.
If it were $750 total of really cool ■■■■, that’s one thing. But this is $750 of lackluster, unimaginative and regurgitated content. It’s assuming the customer is stupid, frankly.
While I’m not a fan of microtransactions myself, I’m sure if you did this for any current game that has MTX, it’d be similar if not way worse.
$750 worth of content doesn’t mean you have to buy $750 worth of content.
This is pretty silly.
I understand it from a Free to Play game, but not for a paid game like this. I won’t be back for another TC game.
Ah yes, the argument. Its cosmetic and does not impact gameplay… well that may be true for you. I however feel very differently and will argue differently to address and prove my point. U dont have to feel this way, but this is just why I do.
Gears 1-3 was so good. Let me say one and two were better than 3. With two being my personal favourite… ah yes… best and favourite what?
Gore my fellow gears. Gore and gibbs as well in gears 2 not from any aspect like bodies being on the floor blockin shotgun shots. (No nothing in this argument comes from a gameplay persepcrtive but the cosmetic look of gibbing someone with a gnasher in gears 2 and how it made me feel whrn playing. )
sure it was just cosmetic looking, (Or this aspect is purely made that way,) but it made the gameplay FEEL great… sam in gears 3 and 4 are just cosmetic but i feel great using her more so than other chars. Shes like a main in a fighting game for me. But for gears.
Sure u can tell me magneto is just a function and if u gave his moves to anyone else, he could be easily replaced… but ur wrong… Magneto makes me feel good when i play… n that is apart of the game just as much as anything else. How much it matters n to what degree is whatever but it does matter.
The difference is Gears 5 is not your standard F2P game. It has a full blown Campaign mode, and several other fully featured modes (Versus, Escape, Horde, Map Builder, etc).
So there’s no way they could give Gears 5 away for free (even though they essentially did with Gamepass).
Point is, comparing Gears 5 directly to something like Fortnite isn’t a fair or 1:1 comparison. You can argue the store prices are too high, but saying Gears 5 should have been free if they wanted to use MTX, isn’t accurate either. This game offers A LOT outside of the store.
Remember all these purchases are cosmetic and optional, and the stuff that matters such as maps and modes are completely free.
But Sam was a character and if released in gears five you will get her via totem or a supply drop or maybe just a giveaway release, it’s the skins, they are the candy to me it’s not necessary to play the game. But let me clarify I do understand what you’re saying, I was always mechanic baird and I do miss him
750 dlls !! JEEZZZ , that’s a lot of cash man…
Its better to have a wife than to buy all that stuff !!.
At least on winter such person would have someone to cuddle with.
hey man … c’mon poker its a fine game… I spend a lot of time also on casino’s = ) jajajajaja LOL
$750 worth of content
That’s debatable.
Missing a lot of the rainbow swirl stuff and other things
