I should amend a bit my earlier post. That doesn’t apply all the time and just because it doesn’t doesn’t mean it’s not still a great solo vid for other reasons. Obviously, solo vids where the player is fighting most of the enemies will be more applicable to general play. My team would be pretty upset if I ran away as Kait and left them behind to fight the enemies, lol. As a specific example of what I was trying to say, I would credit @TurnerBurner922 for how he deals with the Scions as Paduk in his The End vid. I’ve used that method to deal with scions myself in team play. I’m pretty terrible with Lahni. I’ve been meaning to improve my Lahni skills. I wager the Surge is one where she would need to do a lot of fighting, so Koty’s Lahni Surge vid is next on my to-watch list…

and in the first few minutes I’ve already learned something. I hadn’t considered using Embar to stun enemies to open them up for melee. Will definitely remember that when I’m playing as Lahni in a map that has Embar.

I don’t watch many solo runs. I might watch a little of them, because it takes away from my enjoyment in learning the map/character(s). If I knew how to strategically attack every enemy in the game, where is the fun in me learning the game at its core? Plus, I just enjoy playing the game rather I win or lose and not to concern about how to beat a particular enemy(ies) or not. I just enjoy a challenge, even through dying a ton, lol. It’s what keeps me enjoying the game, personally.

But for certainty, I will always give props to anyone that solo maps on Master, that in alone is an accomplishment no matter who its with (even though Cole is easy to use, it still takes skill because theirs a lot bad Coles out there).

Nothing wrong with learning through experience. It can be more rewarding that way.

Another one that can be picked up by watching some solos that isn’t character-specific is how the enemy spawns work. This can help when you’re with a team who is willing to take your lead and that is also aware of the spawn-system, but not so much when you’re with randoms who aren’t considering it/not listening to you. For instance, on every gatekeepers solo run I’ve seen, the person waits to pull the scions out before stepping out to trigger the enemies. This makes the initial fight so much more manageable. Doesn’t work so well in random games though as people tend to just rush out and start fighting immediately. :man_facepalming:

But this plays into my point before, were am I learning for myself to enjoy the game? I know a lot of players enjoy watching solo runs, and theirs absolutely nothing wrong with that, and additionally I know it comes from a hunger for the game.

I’ve hosted all my Master Escape lobbies from OP3 and OP4 and I’ve beat all them on Master with randoms, and knowing the spawn points are vital. We’ve died at times not knowing, but that’s part of the game. You just keep on playing until the team you have get into a better rhythm (if the players are good, of course).

Impressive! I wouldn’t have the patience to do all hives.

Well, no reason one can’t do both. Rough out the hives first with randoms, play them with friends if you have them, then afterwards check some vids and see if there’s anything you missed. In the end, it’s only a game and having more success in the game makes it more enjoyable, IMO. Whichever way you get ahead, be it trial and error, forum advice, watching a vid, it’s all fair game.

This might not apply to you specifically. I’m mainly advocating people watch vids, and/or read forum advice to get better because, honestly, people are terrible at escape. They aren’t enjoying it because they aren’t having success, so they give up early, resulting in the mode being unpopular. I’m afraid that’s gonna be the reason the mode could die off with Gears 6 which would make me upset. So whatever people need to do to get better at and get more enjoyment out of the mode so it stays in Gears I’m for that.

I definitely respect your push with advocating gamers to watch vids, read forum advice, etc. If it’s one thing I understand is that Escape, on Master, is the most challenging mode across all Gears, and, like you said, people will not want to continue playing it due to its uphill battle. But, theirs one factor that you just can’t teach others and that’s - reactionary skills, situational awareness, methods that allow you to push yourself pass your known/unknown limitations.

I’ve hosted some many Escape Master lobbies and have played with enough of the same players, and that’s why I brought up those methods, because a lot of those players can’t adapt, and they’ve always played one style with an inability to not adjust. I don’t think anything is malicious from the player(s) I just think it’s more based off of lack of skill. Some players aren’t capable of adjusting to that uphill battle regardless of what they watch and try to learn from. I believe that will be a factor when Gears 6 comes out on rather or not Escape stays.

That would be very sad if escape isn’t brought back

Welcome to the club.

Fair enough, I disagree with that on The Line and The Gatekeepers though. (And Forever, if it weren’t broken)
