A suggestion to TC for custom horde

Some very good and interesting points made so far from everyone who commented. I personally like the idea of a shorter horde run on occasions where time or commitment is limited, it gives me no satisfaction to duck out of a match early with neither friends nor casuals. After all it’s a team game! And teamwork comes first so i’m all for the idea of 20/25 waves at times, providing the difficulty is relevant.
And like Foosniper stated it could stop quiters sabotaging long haul matches at others expense.

Today I joined a custom horde. Wave 50 after Wave 50 after Wave 50… :upside_down_face:

Yes those matches tend to be very useful for boosting up unfinished characters!

Remember Mass Effect 3? It had a “Horde” mode where you could change the enemies (Geth, Cerberus ecc… ). Now, imagine something similar to this in Gears 5: you can choose only locusts, only swarm, only debees or custom skins (Frankenstein’s Imago, Terminators)… or even all this mixed! Man, it would be amazing.

I think lots of ppl forget and don’t think about gears 3 being too long because we had access to fun/difficult modifiers. The infinite ammo, the comet, big head mode… yea those matches went long and ppl quit… but I think when 4 came along and had its extended scoring menus pop up (after every 10 waves it took forever for the credit/score tally), then even after each wave, the score thing took so long just to get to the next wave. TC inflated the length of a horde game by adding all the time it took to show us the score.

In 2 and 3, each wave wasn’t bogged down with that excessively long score card bs, so by the time they added the 25 wave variant, it made up for the long wait times.

Yea, 50 waves might not have been the best choice from the start, but TC extended matches too much by the time 4 rolled around. Also, the fact that they had great 25 wave variants by the end of 4 and didn’t launch a 20-25 wave variant to play in private matches in 5 just blows my mind! It’s like 2 separate companies worked on 4 and 5 and no one traded notes!

But in reality, what it all really means is that they intentionally extended play time just to beef up their numbers. TC knew they could’ve added a 25 wave variant from day one, but they didn’t because they wanted the highest amount of engagement as possible. Just like how they slowly add boring alt character skins. They have a bunch ready to deploy, but if they put out a bunch of the good ones right away, they think ppl won’t keep playing for long. Sad thing is, they got it backwards. If TC gave us the best of everything to start, it’d show they care, and in turn, the community would care. But since we see they’re doin the bare minimum, we really don’t care and get annoyed quickly and easily with 5.

If they just had a team that understood gears and understood the community, there’d be a lot more ppl sticking around thru the slower times.

Anyway… point was, they could and should’ve given us a 25 wave variant and kept the event matches as private match options, but that’d be giving us too much too soon, and with that “drip feed” mentality, it ain’t gonna happen til some time down the road. Sucks, but TC need to get it together and give us a lot more now, instead of artificially extending the life of gears 5.

I just started playing Mass Effect Andromeda’s and more specifically, ME 3’s Horde Mode and its really a lot of fun. Back when it originally came out I was all about Gears Horde so I’m kinda disappointed that I missed out on it when it originally came out. I even thought about getting ME 3 for PC because I am enjoying the PVE so much but PC doesn’t have controller support unless you mod it and well, I already have it on Xbox where my friends are too.

Recently I’ve been trying Horde/PVE modes for other games as well and I am finding some that are just more fun than Gears 5 Horde, IMO.

Does anyone know if TC has one specific person/Director for Horde and PVE for Gears? I think that would help, too have someone that understands PVE and co-op that the fans can ask questions and give suggestions, etc… I mean I use to LOVE Guardian when I had a regular squad but I know PVE and PVP for Gears are two different things that should not be handled with the same mindset, IMO.

I remember when they first revealed Horde for Gears 4 and had mostly Pro players playing it and the chat was saying how people who regularly play and stream Horde should be shown and asked their thoughts about it.

If course I get why that wasn’t the case.

I’ll tell ya… just to mod Shepard to have the illusive man’s eyes OR give Shepard the eyes/face of the Cerberus soldiers who were augmented with reaper tech makes it all worth it. And it’s not that hard to get controller support on ME3.

I love mass effect so much that I own all the trilogy games on both consoles and my PC, so I’d say get me3 on PC. Andromeda wasn’t that good imo, so I only got it on my xb1x, but modding ME2/ME3 on pc is crazy fun! Definitely recommend it!

I haven’t played ME Andromeda’s campaign yet but I have played the Horde Mode and I really like it. I like 3’s better but Andromeda’s is fun to. I love how it’s quicker and more fluid, and the 60 fps feels great.

I’ll keep a eye out for 3 on PC and look more into modding it and controller support.

Or maybe replacing Shepard with Jinn-bot!? :smirk:

Blasphemy!!

I wanna fight more different enemies. (And a shorter 25 wave mode)

Ah man…I miss that game more and more every time it’s brought up on these forums. ME3 did so much right (except the ending, I know, I know). That horde type mode was a lot of fun.

Yes it still is. And it’s set up to where you have more objectives during some of the waves. That, to me, is where they got it right. When you have to work as a team to download/gather intelligence during one wave, then kill 4 vip enemies that are scattered across the map for the next wave, but then some waves you have to defend a area, that keeps things fresh.

Honestly [SPOILER]
I loved destruction ending, it’s the only version where Shepard survives. And man, that soundtrack made me falling in love.
I still prefer Mass Effect 2 though

Can you still play it online? PC and Xbox?

Or, they could do a “Classic” Horde mode without fortifications or abilities, to echo the Gears 2 Horde.

HI @theHUNTaKILLa

A couple of months ago they told us they will be bringing that into Gears 5 , however it has been a looonggg time ago since that and we haven’t seen any advancements yet.
