A proposed change in Horde and Escape rewards - Rewind the grind

Any time a developer talks about a “roadmap” I make this face:

It would obviously help when comes to maxing stuff. What’s going to happen is, people will play their favourite Level 18 character on Master to stockpile Scrap.

10% chance of 2,400 Scrap
20% chance of 600 Scrap
30% chance of 150 Scrap
40% chance of 10-20(?) Scrap

Then we’ll be stockpiling and hoarding Scrap really easily. So when we level up a new released Operation character through the level-locked card progression system, we are going to be maxing every card we reach. So if I had Level 10 character, all the cards I unlocked so far would be Level 5-6 already. It would be so fast. But a dream that may never happen because it kinda cheesy. And they usually have their own model or plans than listening to community proposals. It could fall on deaf ears.

Not if it is a twitter campaign

I don’t see a problem

I would support a change

Why would you need to play a particular character to improve their skills? It didn’t work that way in 4. You scrapped whatever you didn’t need, even cosmetics and challenges, and upgraded ANYTHING ANYWHERE…
It was a way better system.

That is the idea, or just getting the cards you want upgraded.

True, can’t argue with that but also wasnted to add a few things,

Plenty of people don’t have level 18 characters or play on Master. This change would be helpful for everyone, not just the really hardcore PVE players.

It also means people can quickly upgrade other characters instead of feeling locked out of a ton of content/lobbies due to not having specific characters cards levelled up.

I play with a lot of forum folk who don’t have much levelled up and they feel gated because they need someone to carry them so they can have a small chance at earning something useful. Many of these players are skilled at the game and can quickly learn how hives work and helpful tricks and tips on how to play Escape/Horde, but just don’t have a few cards levelled up enough to tackle higher difficulties. The grind for them to be able to get it is awful.

Gives you are already reup 50 and have mastered every hive, I think it would be fair that you are in the position.

The game already gives scrap just for playing when a duplicate supply drop is awarded, so if you played and saved enough you could already supplement this, just less effectively (like you did with Fahz).

They likely do, but Gears has community input that has helped shape the game in ways in the past, and if not used for Gears 4 it could be useful for future games.

Except that you had to pack the skill card in a Gears pack initially to be able to upgrade it. That was one major flaw of the Gears 4 system. It was also a reason why people were calling Horde P2W for a while.

The Gears 5 system isn’t brilliant, but I cant conceive of the mind who thought that after earning and buying over 400-500+ horde booster packs, operation packs, horde expert packs and the rise of the horde pack, after the rise of the horde update, that I wouldn’t have all the skill cards, was a good idea.

I never got the speed loader card in Gears 4. Yes, it wasn’t a good card for the Scout, and I’d probably only use it once for a bit of fun, but that isn’t the point.

And even Gears 4 was a grind to get all the skills up to the level you wanted. You want skill cards fast? Better do Lift speedruns. Either that or buy packs with real money.

Another flaw is that packs were giving random class cards. Like if I was playing and trying to level up Heavy but the packs could keep giving me Scout, Engie, Sniper or Soldier cards. Even if scrapped them, it’s way less value than Heavy card. Which is literally what Gears 5 solved. Only getting cards for character I’m playing.

Isn’t that what you and wolf did to get to re up 50 so fast???

Pot/kettle/black anyone…

I don’t see what this has to do with this discussion?

It’s simply an observation, pointing out that someone who thinks it is totally fine to cheat the system for their own gain, then suggests that a change to the way something is implemented at the moment would be cheating the system…

So from a forum moderator, it’s a case of do as I say not as I do.

I mean, I’d like to know how the method is cheating. I’ve yet to come up with a argument myself to be honest.

I do disagree with Ektope’s argument to a degree though. I feel like a whole reworking of the scrapping system is needed in the ways player can obtain it, not just from duplicate cards. Maybe not as drastic as Ghost’s, but a relatively large increase.

In my opinion the whole skill system just needs to be Re hauled entirely. Make skills similar to character levels where you just earn a certain amount of experience per level of the card (s) you have currently have equipped, with Higher difficulties and boost obviously leveling them faster. No more RNG nonsense, no more getting unwanted skills, and scrap can used solely for cosmetic items.

I know this system more than likely won’t come to gears 5, but TC should keep an open mind about this suggestion going into gears 6.

Why not get rid of rng and then you just earn xp on the cards you’re using. Say greens take 100xp to level up and legendary takes 1000.
Then just get say 10xp every 5 waves on beginner or something and 80 on master?
Values can be changed and balanced but you get the idea
We can still grind to get what we want and it’s used to fit how we play individually.?

The current way of getting scrap is very bad. A real crappy thing theyve done is becasue theyve introduced more (marks, skins, banners), it means that it gets even harder to get scrap the more stuff they put in.

So how about something like this.
Each character has their own cards. Yes.

So the player should be able to scrap duplicates or cards they don’t want\like.
That scrap the player will receive can only be used on cards for that specific character.

I would take any scrap at this point. i got unusable green card coming out my ears!!!

There’s a prescription for that
