I actually see both sides of the issue. Just depends on what the person feels Gears is all about.
Truth be told, and I won’t go back and find the quote, but TC doesn’t really listen to the pros, forums, or whoever else. They made this game what it is. Which direction they go is anyone’s guess.
I prefer the faster movement, but I also like the slow more methodical play.
Just so you know We are far from Casual here. Most people here are die hards. We all have different views almost about everything that’s why we are always here opening up a dialogue. But for some strange reason most of us agree about the movement update was a positive thing.

It’s not because of hit speed. It’s because you arent used to it. It takes time to adapt. We all think we can pick up a controller and just go. You cant do that on gears. It takes a minute to figure out the flow…
Now is the gnasher broken? yes. It is because of this update? No.

Yeah…let me give you some insight with this whole post and pros.
I’ve played a few pros in koth on 4 and 5. You want to know how they play? It’s not slow. Its fast pace run around and shotty everything in sight. While ignoring the hill to a degree.
The times I have played where things slowed down because a team boxed us out? It was boring. The best games are the close ones where everyone is running into the hill trying to stave off those last few seconds from the other team.
I just played one the other night on training grounds where we got shut out because people boxed us out of every hill. To the point people just quit.
You like slow and methodical. Most people dont.
You like to have call outs for every piece and structure. Most people dont.
You play 8 hours a day or more because it’s a job. I play because I enjoy it when I have the time.
People dont think about getting kills. They think about winning.
I can list about half a dozen ways you can currently kill me with the shotgun.
Roadie. Slide and pop, wrap around, over a wall, strafe, hard aim, wall bouncing. None of these are going to leave with them boosting some speeds.
These are simple quality of life changes. Simply put…just adapt.
You want to play slowly? Then play slowly. Wall slides and boosts out of a corner are not gonna stop you from playing slow and methodical.

I disagree with the rifles. They are perfect .minus the hammerburst but I’m bias and prefer g3 hammy over all them.
That being said they already nerfed the lancer so distance doesnt do as much. So now if you get caught it’s your fault. You can slip out of a rifle fire if you are good. What people are crying over is the fact that they get hit with 3 or 4 Lancers now and drop…which you know…duh?
I see plenty of aggressive people making plays. Even watching some scrims on youtube people are. But if you make a play with someone giving lancer support then that’s not the games.fault.
We know now tc put in a lot of delays to make things fair for casuals etc. They never should have been there in the first place. I shouldnt have a delay sliding, or my shotgun firing nothing but I feel it in my trigger but the other guy is rewarded.
You make the shotgun more consistent and people will stop complaining as much. You stop this nonsense of people coming out of a roadie run and gibbing you after you shot them and people will stop complaining. That same distance in 4 meant I won and the other person was punished for being dumb.
What is clear is that tc screwed up with 5. Like a alot and they are paying the price for it. Least it seems with everyone complaining about their ideas. They decided to take coke and make new coke. Nobody wanted new coke.
Let me just add something to this with watching some streams. You arent playing slow and methodical. You think you are because of who you are playing against. You are playing against other people who play like you. Who throw the frag at the right time. Who know every angle on every map to kill someone. So in theory games or war will slow down.
I’ll pop on avery’s on youtube sometimes to watch his movement. He is sliding and bouncing all over the place. Going from one hill to another. Its methodical but its fast paced. That’s what happened when your life is gears and a pro.
I’m not saying I have all the answers but I know when gears works and when it doesnt. When the game runs like butter I can run with almost anyone. When it doesnt then I want to throw my controller through my tv.
So let’s go through some weapons.
Lancer. Is fine. There is no need to touch the rifles. ( again I hate the hammy but I’m bias) if you cant get out of the way that’s your fault or the buttons not registering…( which happens)
Pistols.they are fine.
Hammer…I dont like it but it’s less op. It shouldnt have a dmg buff shield tho. It should have the opposite. It’s a one kill hit so you should have that risk factor of picking it up as a trade.
Boom and drop…fine.
Frags… smoke is fine. Shock has a problem of people running through it and not being shocked. Flash sometimes gives your screen a flash issue or water bead affect. Frags…I notice alot of people are able to run by them. Not something I’d alter i think?
Gnasher…hit detection, it’s too powerful and needs to be tweaked a little from 10 ft or more I think… hit detection and also hit detection. I shouldnt have my shotty up their inside their chest only to miss and then get gibbed because some how their gun was able to fire out their rectum and blow me away.
But I do like the idea of two load outs. Core with what we have but your customs you can adjust the speeds and such to what you want. It’s a custom game so why not adjust the speeds of you want?.
Then if the whole pro circuit likes it they can use it with out affecting the base. It’s a win win and who doesnt like choice?
Please provide even a SINGLE piece of support for the statement that “most of the fans” prefer the slow, TaiChi like movement over what we had. In GoW4.

No they aren’t. Most regulars here are acting like competitive players are out to get them. They refuse to grasp basic points like the fact that pros have no influence over the game. Instead going with lies like “the game was made for pros”
Yes, for Gears 5, the game worked better even during the tech test lol.
Gears 5 was designed for slower movement and I definitely support the revert.
For those who wants faster movement, this game just doesn’t work like that. This was a game to play for damage, to be different from gears 4.
It’s either revert or wait a long time for the game to be completely re-imagined.
The game is simply not properly balanced. It isn’t all about how fast or slow. UE was great and slow. Gears 3 is the most beloved and extremely fast.
It is about the game making sense, which is the failure for Gears 5.
It’s that easy! This is the solution for GEARS 5. At one point we have to stop talking in general or trying to create the greatest Gears of War ever with a single update to Gears 5.
We are talking Gears 5 here and those two points are exactly what the game needs. That’s what we were asking for in order to be able to evade and not feel like we get hit by every noob.
They completely misunderstood what we were looking for. i mean, it’s not like you couldn’t move or bounce at all before this latest update.
Find a middle ground ffs.

you couldn’t do it that effectively at the beginning but the way they have it now isnt the way to go either. i agree with Kenny’s first two points, that would be the way to go.
And this is how it was in Gears 4, the attacking player gets the advantage. I love wallbouncing but I can admit that it is more of a freestyle style of play rather than a true composed outplay.
the game was getting closer to getting to a great place before this last update. People say they love gears 3 and that game was balanced for attacking (fast bouncing) and defending (damage and stopping power)
gears 5 was getting close to that. people shouldnt act like wall bouncing in gears 5 just became a thing with the new update.
also, as a little note, bouncing is currently so easy and noobed down in gears 5 that anyone can do it. i join those bouncing lobbies and EVERYONE looks the same. wasn’t like that in 3 or even 4.
and how do these people who are og veterans and LOVE the older gears titles not get this? TC destroyed the franchise, we want epic back…what?

it is more than just movement speed, the game needs to have an identity. Gears 5 will not work in the current direction, so a revert is needed.
I enjoyed the game much, much more in the tech test and early on than i do now (i dont play it anymore).

we are arguing to be allowed to play for strafing and damage and not just bouncing and chunks - gears 3 was ridiculously fast, i mean stupidly fast, but it allowed for a balanced style.
gears 4 did not allow for anything other than pin balling and chunking - remember holding shots? yeah.
gears 5 was better in this aspect before this latest update. i love wallbouncing but it shouldnt be the only thing. i want to be able to play for damage and downs, to let my brain and aim win me battles and not just my dumb skill.
Horde isn’t pvp…but horde has been ruined as a mode…as for pvp…just looking through this thread tells u peeps arnt happy🙄
Sure you could. The issue was the lancer had the same dmg from 5 feet to 100 feet. So I could hit you at the snipe spot on vasgar while you shotguned or came towards me from hammer
I had the advantage but you could still evade. The other issue was with the dmg because you had 2 or 3 people lancering so yeah you could evade then. It had less to do with movement than rifle damage.
That being said the movement was clunky but not that clunky.

the two points that Kenny made seem to be the solution imo
i dont want the lancer being like it was at the beginning or the movement to be the exact same. go back to JUST BEFORE the latest updated and only bring in the strafing and roadie speed.
That would give the best balance i think.
