The issue with current gears of war is you are forced to play one play style at a competitive level if you want to succeed, and that just doesn’t make for a good balanced game. When I say competitive I am not just talking esports. If the ranking system worked the way it was intended and high level players were only pit against high level players, this would be more apparent. Right now, you’re just limiting yourself and can’t keep up if you aren’t near the highest sensitivity in the game. There is zero reason to play on anything low because you simply can’t keep up and playing for damage just doesn’t work. This was Gears of War 4’s issue (in a competitive setting) and with the newest movement update these problems are back in full force.
Really, I don’t care that the mechanics let you move however it is you want to move, I just dislike that it’s not consistently punishable because positioning and playing for damage barely works. One example of positioning not mattering anymore is right hand advantage, Sliding into someones right hand advantage was the BIGGEST no-no in everything pre-Gears 4, but in Gears of war’s current state, that play is rewarded consistently because of how fast people can slip to corners/walls/shoot. There needs to be some kind of balance that lets people play the way they want, and it just isn’t there in a competitive setting. Before the update, the game gave players a little bit more identity in their play style, which I believe should be the goal.
Same.
Btw, get @ll_R_E_D_l and @o_GH0UL_o up in this B. They most probably will have some very good input on this subject.
Oh, I’d also like to get @GhostofDelta2 in here and get his feedback, but he’s probably asleep atm.
Ghoul probs would just flag everyone, and RED is working…■■■■■■■ nerd
What is “working” ?
I joke, I joke
runs for the hills
Silly man, you can’t run up the hills with 80k iron. Smh…
But I can pay for it to be carried over them
I joke, I joke
runs over the hills and the mountains
That I own!
I jokeeee
ok, going to stop here
Not gonna lie. That made me laugh out loud
Honestly I could go either way on this movement issue. I think it’s actually distracting TC from other more pressing issues with the game. no particular order.
I realize this issue literally affects your chosen profession and how you live but if there nobody left to watch the ProLeauge at the end of the day everyone loses. IMO, TC needs to focus on the entire picture first and worry about minute mechanics at a later date.
Game could have used another year in the oven
Aha then the mob with pitchforks now chasing me was worth it
Back to watching The Witcher
(Which is fantastic and I would highly recommend!)
Agreed on your hidden comment there.
Also, what do you guys think of having TC implement a PTR to the game, that way people can test out the changes before it is released in the wild?
Only downside to that is (that I can think of), as you all already know, TC is very slow at implementing fixes and tunings to the game, so that may delay changes and such much more.
Nah. Terrible compared to the games and novels tbh. But that’s a convo for another thread.
Look,
TC need to design at least 1 or 2 maps that have somewhere you can sit without constantly having players come at you for all angles.
I totally agree that some maps are over designed.
If there’s a sniper map, give the sniper the chance to camp and snipe.
A good example, well, the only one I can think of is Lift where you can sit up top on Grenade side.
But even then, that only overlooks less than half of the map.
The other side can be flanked.
Now, it’s great you can have maps that can do this but one map without would be good.
Subway was good for this.
Gridlock, hated by some it may be, had the two towers.
And many, many maps had little “pockets” with only one way in and out.
I miss those.
But,
The biggest problem?
KOTH Spawns.
Damn are they just atrocious and ridiculous.
Like,
TC said in a video before 5 that this was a priority to get right considering how bad they were for 4.
And yet,
Still nonsensical.
I think that could work , since if the game its functioning, it just wouldn’t broke it more by implementing a PTR , also without a doubt the " Quality Assurance " of the updates rollover would be increased exponentially because by doing this… we would all make sure it will work before being pass on to production environment.
Fair enough, not played or read the novel
- although I watched one of the funniest videos on YouTube explaining the game. Fantastic watch. DM me for vid if interested.
But another time and place as I’m just halfway through atm
- don’t want to take this off topic so will leave this here
No problem on responding! In terms of PvP, yes I do think that utilising this playstyle is the only viable way to play the game. For me anyways I’m more of a defensive player. I like to track my opponents, what wall they’re going to bounce off etc. At the start of the game this was ridiculously easy as there wasn’t much options for the player who was being hit so this wasn’t good.
The update before the current one that we have, defensive play was an option but so was wallbouncing. I didn’t feel one was better than the other. If someone had good movement they could make me miss and kill me but if I could hit them I’d get the kill. The person wallbouncing could get the kill but it would require a serious amount of skill.
In both of these updates, strafing was never a viable option due to as others have pointed out, it is far too easy to hit someone as the movement is far too slow. This is amplified when you factor in aim assist and how fast players can shoot. So this update set about to try make strafing viable.
However, it made sliding to cover even faster which made wallbouncing (which is meant to require a lot of skill) even easier and essentially had no effect on strafing. This has also made defensive play harder and so wallbouncing dominates.
Yeah that’s true, not everyone wallbounces but it is essential for doing well. Choosing not to use a type of movement is going to limit your playstyle so you won’t be playing as well as you could as you’re not using one of the ‘tools’ you’re given.
Well originally the way people thought of this update was that it was only meant to affect strafing as wallbouncing was already in a good place. There are situations where you should wallbounce and there are situations where you should be able to strafe. It’s just that right now, it seems you can wallbounce in any situation and be rewarded whereas regular strafing still has no benefits.
Apologies about the wall of text.
Ahh ok…interesting. And thanks for taking the time to explain your opinion.
I agree with @D_A_N_III_3_L , it might be worth slowing down the changes if a PTR means making sure it works, doesn’t break more stuff first, and is a good change.
**Its truly something when somebody is simply putting his opinion and gets mauled **
Lets have it boys and girls im gonna make a few points about most Pros players misconceptions I want to see how to the other side responds.
Now from a Casual perspective I understand maybe your favorite gun got nerfed, I was talented with the weapon too but there’s a certain extent to it all , even in a normal Koth Ranked that gun easily controlled the pace. it was over powered even in Gears 4 the damage output wasn’t no where to how it was in Gears 5 release date.
too sum up that part Most Pro players dont ask for a nerf / buff in weapons unless its crucially needed if I have a Boom shot/dropshot it better kill in 1 shot in respective range. no if and or buts both parties should agree
Movement Changes at the highest level being played can be abused based of a control scheme you play this should be formally known worldwide around the gears of war universe.
A Classic Alternate player can and will slide faster/further then your average default players or any other control scheme you can name.
Classic alternate is not the problem in this case. There’s too many variables that allow classic alt player to look like a speed demon on the map.
Slide speed increase , up A Speed boost , and Melee Speed boost
Personally speaking I preferred the Movement/ shotgun fights I was getting into during Gears 5 release it gave me that Gears 2/ 3 Feel and I would think most of the fans like it that way.
With this update we are on now were back to sliding into all your fights and cant believe half of this forum is for that type of game play.
just to closed this up I know I switched topics half way threw this and typed this out in about 30 mins just wanted to express my thoughts and kind of help Casual/ Vet side see it from another perspective.
I am Coach of Mazer Gamings Gears Team, I just want the game to be the best it could be hopefully we can break this disconnect between pro players/ coaches and the rest of the community.
Twitter @VoraNYC
You couldn’t have said it any better Kenny. I remember the Gears 2 days when being the best player in the lobby really stood out at the end of the match.
I would like to see…
1.Lancer clip reduced back to 45 with recoil. (Learn to switch pistol for a down)
2. Revert the movement to previous TU.
3. Add the shots back to Gnasher!!! (Six makes running away more often)
4. Flash bangs as pick up only
5. Boom and frags blast tweaked to get multi-kills when it should
In the name of the father, and the son, and the Holy Ghost. Every single person that likes this update can get blown to oblivion by me in a 1v1, send the Inv, Noxious Hero. Everything kenny said is Facts. And if u need help finding your brain , we can blues clues it till we find it . This update is a huge step back from what gears is. Your love for the game compare to someone like me or kenny, fran, eternity, etc. who’s been playing and competing at a high level for longer than any of you, EVEN when Gears was dead we were still playing. So all you casual kids who pray for front spawn to pick up snipe since canals can kick rocks But I love y’all for being in this community tho, but it y’all haven’t experience the highest level of gears gameplay , you’re missing a big ■■■ piece to your puzzle. So your opinions are incomplete. We all started off as casuals.
