A pro who wants to help things improve. Hear me out?(PVP thread)

Just want to say Kenny this was nicely put when it really shouldn’t be. Hopefully others can follow in your footsteps and actually give good feedback and back just attack you like that wolf dude who obviously woke up with a giant stick up his ■■■.

I think you’re over exaggerating a bit. Most regulars here are expressing their concerns and opinions in a civil manner. Saying that he’s being “viciously attacked” is a bit much I think…

EDIT: I think both you and @TheeGreatChubbz should get past the first couple of comments, rather than immediately cry foul. Plenty of good arguments and counterpoints. Great conversation overall imo.

haha, I have a better one - it’s not fun pressing a button, and that input disappearing without being acted on!!

Sooooooooooooo many times I press and hold RB and the chainsaw… DOES NOT REV UP!!!

Same with hitting A and… nothing happening… then I press A again, and halleluya, I slide to cover… (I’m on classic alt)…

OMFG, switching weapons makes me think like I need to take off the trigger lock off of them, every time I equip/swap them…

I would LOVE to use rolling as a way to get around players, outplay them, but it’s like in slow motion, relative to players’ ability to track you and shoot you…

Here is the problem… the stupidly OP weapons and the incredible aim assist make it very difficult to avoid being killed, once you are seen… reducing the movement speed worked even MORE in favor of people camping and shooting you from a distance… So it’s not like people are complaining about the possibility of a speed reduction, in isolation… it’s all interconnected and related. For me, I hate the return to where movement, as a large, was unable to overcome the huge advantages of OP weapons and aim assist on stereoids.

NOTE: pros don’t play with aim assist on! So that’s not a problem for them. I heard Ashes say few times that lancer tuning was perfectly fine, without aim assist it was great! Yeah, but we have to play with aim assist on, so the fact that pros thought it was fine FOR THEM doesn’t mean it worked for us!

They are trying to optimize the game play for THEIR environment, which is not the same as ours… And let’s be real, for all the protestations of “ohh, I play ranked too”, we know where the real interest and priority of a pro player is…

This is all going back to have two tunings, one for the pros and one for the rest of us…

it’s better to have a split community, each half with its own tuning, than a single tuning, universally hated by all.

Could you elaborate on your statement that slow movement “is much needed because the only viable playstyle?”

Great feed back. Some people should read this and try it.

So on a public forum, you think telling someone (not you who said it by the way) to “■■■■ and good riddance” is a good way to have a discussion? I’d understand if he came in here insulting people but he didn’t.

Saying viciously attacked may be a bit of an over exaggeration but that’s all I’ve seen in the majority of this post.

KB, I just posted a topic about “pros” and their movement choices. What do you think about having 2 movement options available to choose from in the Custom Menu. One config for pre-update movement, and one config for post-update movement. Obviously whomever Host would choose. That to me would be a fairly simple option that might appease some people, and even add a little more strategy into the mix. Any thoughts?

I’m taking about the thread in general, not that one member. For the most part, people are being civil and not “viciously attacking” the OP.

Wall Bouncing / Hyper Bouncing is essential at the highest level.

Having played against you, I wouldn’t stand a chance if I tried to strafe / bot walk.

The shots coming at me would be too fast and too unpredictable.

I normally get between 80-120 Elims a game, less if it ends really fast.

I’ve been as high as 200+ too.

You have to wall bounce to hit these figures.

Not only does it let you get around the map faster but it’s the main way of getting multi-kills which you need to hit high Elims.

All in all, TC should allow and encourage faster movement wherever possible with the least amount of delays.

It’s a skill and for me, it’s fun to do and fun to watch.

I can go quite fast and sometimes pull off some amazing kills / sequence of fluid movement.

Sure. I know there is a ton of diversity in the people who play this game. Some people play a couple of hours a week, some people play a couple hours a day. Some people only play PvE and and some people only play PvP.

In terms of PvP, the only viable option is to wallbounce. As was stated by other users, this is attributed to the aim assist but it is also attributed to just slow the strafe speed is compared to the wallbounce speed. The cover slide speed is so much faster than strafe speed that it’s what the majority of players are doing (such as up A’ing or sliding into their opponent.)

If you try to strafe now, you’re essentially a sitting duck and that goes for modes with/without aim assist, just because of how slow it is. If someone is spamming then you might get up close and get a kill, but a lot of people (that I play against in PvP anyways) know to hold their shot, which is crippling to someone strafing.

That’s why I feel that right now, wallbouncing is the only viable option in this game right now, as it completely overshadows strafing.

And while they’re at it,

Fix matchmaking.

So that I don’t get a team of Bronzes against stacks of Onyx/Diamond/Masters.

That way,

Lower Skilled matches have slower movement for people to keep up with and learn with.

High Skilled Matches mix it up because the faster the other players move and go, the faster I have to go.

Sometimes I do get comfortable and I’ll stop bouncing.

Game will throw me up against sweats with a team that cannot ever cope and I’ll have to step it up again (and lose points no matter what :sob:).

But it’s essential progression for Gears players.

You start off slow and one dimensional but you should want to grow into a fluid moving, all weapon using player.

It’s where the real competitive matches are at.

Oh yeah then true, I do agree with you there. I wasn’t trying to say that anybody who disagreed with him was “viscously attacking” him, that was just the one that stood out to me.

From what I glanced through, everyone else has been quite pleasant with their responses. I just don’t think he deserves any of that one user. People upvoted his reply as well so I guess I took that as some people think responding like that is ok.

Am I the only one that sees little to no difference in the following…

TC trying to fix Gears 5.
‘Pros’ in a game as pathetic as Gears 5.
Polishing a turd.

Didn’t think so.

Appreciate the response! …So, if I’m reading correctly (and know I’m legit trying to understand everyone’s sentiments)… you’re saying this is the “only viable” way to play for your playstyle…in regards to pvp? Bc, for example, I assume not everyone wallbounces, thus making that not a viable way of play for them…or maybe neither wallbouncing nor strafing nor sliding…? just a thought
I think I hear what you’re saying about the slow strafe…and does sound unfun (I’m making that a word), so would faster strafe fix that…to coincide with the faster overall movement? Would you agree that strafe and slide and wallbounce should all have different speeds so as to provide specific intent for using each movement?

I just want the shotgun to hit what I’m shooting at on my screen…

Oh yeah I agree, it is more fun to watch and the aggressor should be rewarded if they can make the other person miss their shots.

I don’t think OP wants the game to go back to a snail’s pace either. I just think they’d like for there more options in play besides just wallbouncing.

Like you said, wallbouncing is a skill and it is hard to use. Personally I just feel that it is a bit too easy to use right now with how fast everything is.
