I haven’t posted on the forums in a good while and it is exactly because of the attitude that is being displayed by the regular users on here. A person who is sharing the general opinion of the people who play the game at the highest level and he is being attacked by some people who mostly play PvE. And he’s being attacked viciously.
Obviously to those people mostly playing PvE wanting a revert is a bad thing because nobody wants slow movement when you’re fighting an Elite Drone with a Claw. But at a competitive level it is much needed because the only viable playstyle at the moment (same goes for Ranked as well by the way, especially if you’re playing game modes with aim assist) is to wallbounce like a mad man.
And I know there will be one person who says “Well I got to Onyx in KOTH without wallbouncing so this pro doesn’t know what the community wants and is clueless”. I believe you can look at one of the regulars on here; @III_EnVii_III. I’m sure he’s not dropping 100+ eliminations in games without at least incorporating some wallbouncing (which I’ve heard is quite fast by the way).
Now Kenny’s not trying to say “Bring it back because I can’t adapt.” As I know some of the people on these forums don’t keep up with the Esports scene, Kenny and his team won the latest event on this new movement change. The person who won the event is wanting a revert on the movement change. Surely that has to say something.
Now the whole point of this movement change (or what was initially thought) was that strafing speed would be increased. Strafing in the recent Gears games isn’t as viable as it used to be in Gears 1/2, so this update would make it more viable to do that, thus providing players with another play style to use . The problem was with this movement speed increase is that everything else increased as well. This essentially negated the strafe speed increase and made wallbouncing and sliding around cover even more prevalent than they already were.
The reason why the pros are pushing for the revert is that now the movement speed is too fast to have a defensive play style so now everyone is pretty much forced to play the same way, which isn’t good. Imagine in a fighting game everyone used the exact same character at tournaments and online and played them the exact same way.It wouldn’t be very fun.
Now I know there are some people who say “Well fast Gears is fun to me”. That’s fine, but this update had robbed people who prefer slow Gears of having fun. I’m on the side of having slow Gears as that’s what I prefer.
I play this game pretty casually now so having slow or fast movement isn’t that big of an issue to me as I don’t really have much time to play as I’m busy with university . I was just trying to shed some more light on what Kenny’s point was trying to be. I know people like Ashes have said (I haven’t seen the clip) that people who don’t like the slow movement don’t know how to play this game. I don’t agree with that as at the end of the day it does come down to preference.
Finally, people do need to remember that OP did just come in here sharing his and others opinion. The attacking and general toxicity to his opinion just wasn’t right. At the end of the day, we all want Gears to be the best game it can be. Obviously some people will have different opinions on what is best for Gears, but surely we can discuss these civilly amongst ourselves?
EDIT: Just improved typos.
