A pro who wants to help things improve. Hear me out?(PVP thread)

I’m kinda on the fence about this. On one hand, I really like how Gears 5 plays right now in terms of movement and weapon balance (especially the latter. I feel like the changes in weapon balance actually enabled more ways to approach a fight). On the other hand, I really liked the more methodical gameplay of Gears UE (which is my favorite Gears title).
Personally, I don’t think weapon balance needs to change drastically from where it is now. My main complaint would be Gnasher headshots. They should imo work like in Gears 2 where your shotgun barrel had to actually be in contact with the opponent’s head in order for you to get a headshot. Right now occasional Gnasher headshots just result in random instakills. Sure, they look cool and all but in the end they mainly make Gnasher fights that much more inconsistent.

However, I wouldn’t mind the movement to be somewhat more methodical. I’m not sure how this should be achieved, but it could very well change the game for the better. However, as I previously said, I also do enjoy the current state of character movement in Gears 5.

I see what you are saying and we may just have to agree to disagree…but it want to say that gears 3 had several viable play styles even with fast movement - gears 4 and the current gears 5 do not have that

that is my concern, not the actual speed itself.

And that’s fine by me. I’m just glad to have this conversation with some fellow Gearheads.

Kenny articulated himself very well. It’s reasonable to disagree with his point. But, to go off on a pretentious and embarrassing rant is not only counter productive, it just exposes a level of ignorance on the subject matter since you seem to be more caught up in looking for adjectives than looking for valid counter points.

Lowering the movement speed would kill this game honestly… Gears 2 was a pain because of this: You move slowly, but insane weapons damage = slow gameplay.

You know, even with its inconsistency and problems, Gears 3 had the perfect experience for me. The game had overpowered rifles yes, we all remember the retro lancer rant. However, the movement speed, combined with wall bouncing and roadie strafe made it somehow easy to counter. It was easy to spot someone who knew how to play and exploit the mechanics at max. I had tons of fun with that game mostly because there wasnt only one way to play and enjoy the game… and i guess thats why I dont fully enjoy gears 5 yet.

Wall bouncing, roadie strafe is easier to perform in this game, but it feels useless because of how slow the movement is, Gears 5 has only one rifle, (boring if you ask me, I miss being able to choose my fav ) even if they decreased the ammo count, i still think is OP and hard to counter without having a proper movement. Lowering the speed will make this worse.

And the thing i hate the most: Hit marks. The gnasher feels super inconsistent in this game, sometimes they OHKO from a considerable distance, and the next time you get “96% damage with one hit” even if you are super close to the enemy. This things is basically: 2 shots from mid range and you are dead. And i cant be the only that feels my shots don register even if I pressed the trigger. I lowkey hated when you died and killed someone at the same time in gears 3, with gears5 … i miss that. I really want to enjoy and love this game, but the more i look back, the more im unhappy with its actual state.

One personal opinion: Games have died when devs pander only to esports and their minority. We didnt had those back in the days and I still think we dont need them, but listening only to their feedback is a big “f you” to the rest of the players that had been playing this franchise since their beginings.

I just have to say that yeah all this is irrelevant until the game works fundamentally.
I’ve given up pvp for now because Gnasher is so bad. Can’t comment on movement when regardless of how I move I cant land a shot.

Although, hyper-bouncing can f**k off.

I agree (save for hyper bounce). I don’t think the game functions well on a fundamental level so these changes are like changing the tires on a car with faulty brakes.

I can see Kenny’s point. And, I can see why people are against it, because they’re desperate for some feeling of speed and fluidity. I think the game needed/needs a change, but this wasn’t really an ideal solution. People are passionately bickering about which version of ‘broken’ is best.

I think man that you’re truly on point hre @JerryG95 , the developer should really listen to the enormous amount of feedback that its customers have provided here on the forums , at the end they are the ones who are not looking after a " Prize Money" , they really give money to the dev to deliver a great game which in this case hasn’t been the case.

They only thing It really angers me and it’s the reason why sometimes Im not very fond of pro players its that they use a game to get a golden plated trophy and us who are truly the ones who support the game are not taken accounted for… this community and millions of players around the world who support GOW games should be given a game that truly could exceed their expectations.

DOOM ETERNAL its a fine example of a love letter from ID SOFTWARE to their support and fan base… they know how to keep their customers happy and wanting for more.

100% agree

The pro scene is so small in comparison to the rest it’s not particularly deserving of the amount of impact it has over game development.
Give me good solid maps for horde anyday over boxes everywhere

Hi @Stannis_d_Manis

that is correct, I can only hope one day we could have at least 3 new maps for horde, that could be interesting or furthermore we could have the " horde editor map" so promised by TC which hasn’t even shed any light into it .

One day.

Could we be so lucky in 2020? We can hope

as far as I see TC slow on these things… we’ll have to wait.

Yup even the die hards are moving on now. Its honestly the worst shooter in History. If you cant have the most basic function of a shooter working its time to find a new developer.

Ok I’ll bite. What are the basic shooting functions of all games and how does Gears 5 violate them? What’s your opinion on the best shooter ever? Who do you have in mind to develop Gears 6?

Thats not zero influence

I think the speed is fine. I just think the server cant handle it sometimes and shots dont register corrctly.
I mostly play 2vs2 and up A’s almost always work now because the defensing persons slapshot or back A does not register.
In g4 playing against diamond players on 2 vs 2 mid and you tried to be too aggresive, bye bye slapshot headshot.
The slowly inflicting dmg game is gone because also half shots dont register so better go for the gib range

that’s exactly why people like Kenny prefer pre-update movement. Aggressive plays still worked well, they just had to be more calculated and thought out. Right now against good players, I can sit behind cover, hit shots on someone bouncing in the open for no reason just for them to slide into me and go for the 1 shot in between my shots. The only way for me to counter someone doing that in an individual fight, is holding my shot and forcing myself to play to their game instead of having my own identity. Pre-update wasn’t perfect, and I don’t think anyone wants it to stay what it was, but for now, it was the more competitive version of the game.

Man, I just wanna play some good Gears with some good people. Casuals, pros, pvp players, pve players. I want Gears to be the best it’s ever been. We need to RISE UP, GAMERS!

Out of everything that was posted, that’s all you took from it huh? I was referring to the misconception that pro players have any influence over any REAL mechanic in the game. 4 years to lower the round count from 7 to 5 hardly counts as a victory. I get it man, you just want to be right, take your cookie and lets move on with the conversation or just end it here.
