**2006 VET** Roll Call!

Hey, guys!

Since I know a few of us here are original Gear of War fans from 2006 who have been through thick and thin from the beginning, I figured I’d start this thRead for us to touch base and talk about the things we love about Gears, the current direction of the franchise, and the state of Gears 5. In my opinion, being a 2006 VET doesn’t necessarily make us better than non-2006 VETs, but being with the franchise for so long and seeing so many iterations of Gears does give the 2006 VETs an enhanced perspective.

To start out, I figured we could discuss the following topics:

Topic 1: Do you like fast Gears or slow/methodical Gears??? This isn’t necessarily a topic specifically about Gears 5’s current tuning since we already have the BIG TUNING THREAD, but rather your general preference for the direction of the franchise.

Topic 2: Do you think Gears of War should have colorful skins and characters, or should it stick more to the gritty and grim aesthetics of the original games???

Topic 3: Do you think that Gears 6 should revert to center screen aiming or stick with the current barrel aiming mechanics that have existed since Gears of War 3???

Topic 4: What is your opinion on the characters introduced by TC in Gears of War 4 and Gears 5??? Do you think they remain true to the spirit of Delta Squad, or did TC miss the mark with the new franchise leads???

I’ll leave it at four TOPICS for now and add more as the thRead progresses. I look forward to hearing what the other 2006 VETs have to say.

If you are not a 2006 VET, you are also free to post in this thRead, but please identify yourself as “NOT A 2006 VET” at the beginning of your poRst.

Thanks

Roll tide!

:raising_hand_man:t2: 06 vet (technically started in the beginning of 07 after the updates fixed getting stuck in place at spawn)

  1. need a good mixture of movement and pace without ruining the skill gap. Every game has played differently especially Gears 5 but I’ve been seeing a lot of crazy stuff in 5. Maybe a mix of 3 and 4 (competitive tuning only) with a sprinkle of 5

  2. NEEDS to go back to the gritty side of things. I cannot stand these colorful weapon skins at all. I’ve come to terms with skins being in the game but flowers and rainbows have ZERO place in this game

  3. quick correction for you: barrel aiming was a thing as far back as Gears 2 not 3. That being said, it needs to stay at the barrel. In Gears 1 (and Judgment kinda) when you were getting close to someone you’d have to aim downward to hit them. It looked weird

  4. I have a whole thought process to this but for the sake of time and peoples’ eyes I’ll say that they missed the mark especially in 5. 4 and 5 had potential but nothing holds our hearts more than the original trilogy and OG Delta. Watch all of the trailers and you can see a common feeling resonate which includes the Sound of Silence trailer from 4. That feeling was all but gone with 5.

2006 Vet here and my opinion doesn’t matter more than a non-2006 vet.

You forgot to identify yourself as NOT A 2006 VET.

Did GOW1 release in 2006 in England or did you guys have to wait a little while?

WHAT!!! Australia mate.

I’m going to answer because I find the questions interesting but I to consider the “2006 VET” to be in very poor taste, and yeah I did play Gears in 06. Did you played G3 or Ultimate? would’ve been more appropriate and would provide the same"enhanced perspective".

  1. This new tuning feels to me like Gears Ultimate, weird in a way after the previous one was so fast but I did enjoy Ultimate a ton so I’ll go with “slow”.

  2. Anthony Carmine in UE with the badass green bubbles skin remains unmatched to this day.

  3. Barrel for me.

  4. I’ll just say that I have played more with Cid (Gears Tactics) than with JD. It doesn’t need to be Delta all the time but clearly the new generation came out to be as uninspiring as can possibly be.

FYI OP only plays ranked when I invite him to a squad, is currently Bronze 1, and can’t seem to plug a microphone in correctly.
Honestly he’s a false 06er.

OG 06 vet here!

  1. Gears has always been fast paced barring the parts where you have to sneak around Berserkers. So yea, I prefer fast overall.

  2. Ditch the colors. Gears 1 encapsulated the Gears spirit better than any other game with its use of dark colors. But unfortunately, they’re here to stay so no point really discussing this topic. To be fair, Gears 3 was kind of colorful and it worked. So it’s not the worst thing.

  3. Stick with barrel aiming. We’re all used to it now.

  4. No group of characters will ever touch OG Delta Squad. But they’re good/decent for the new trilogy. I think killing off 1 of them so soon was an odd choice, but if it helps the one that survives grow and develop from it then I’m all for it.

That being said, I’m not optimistic about Gears 6 at all unless a new studio takes over or TC gets a promising Studio Head/Lead (like Cliffy B).

2005 vet here when it comes to first playing Gears and first saw footage of the Unreal Marines project in 2004 actually.

Yeah he seems to tell people that they should think the same as him and also makes the rules for forums

But I do like the topic of the old/new aim systems, and could it not be an option for both? Or would it lead to exploits?

I have no idea about the aiming, I asked the question before on where to aim and the consensus was center screen. I’ve never found a decent video of where to aim and the aiming mechanic. So I don’t aim center screen!?

Hardcore Gears 06 Vet…whatever that means

Tony, it means Feckall mate. We are all here because we love/love to hate Gears and that is enough.

Must admit I’m not triggered by the requirements or wants of the OP. Although I do have a pet hate of Vet being used to describe anything other than an animal doctor or someone who served in the forces.

Probably an E-penis type gig. I’m going to start insisting unless you have put more than 10’000 hours in across all Gears, you can’t post on my threads :joy::joy::blush:
